The cold and snowy east coast winter was nice but it wasn't all that bad south of VA.

weather has nothing to do with the tomatoes normally, they'll always find
a supplier, the thing that does it is usually salmonella or ecoli

They're blaming the tomato crop on the arctic outbreak which is BS.

There's always an arctic outbreak that hits Georgia/Florida once or twice in the winter.

It was the same deal this season too.

IDK, I went to the grocery store the other day and saw plenty of tomatoes available.

Doesn't sound that unlikely to me, really. Cold weather means higher cultivation costs (light + heat), combined with current high energy prices translates into more expensive tomatoes. Wendy's will probably not want to raise the prices of their products, fearing that it may cost them market share, so why not opt for the easy way out and let out the tomatoes altogether? Besides, many people don't like them anyway; since it's red, but not meat, so it's probably suspect.

I know but man, I'm one of those people who likes those god damn tomatoes on my god damn burger.

This is the second time in a month where tomatoes were not available and they made no mention of it in either situation.  GRRRR

I should sue for like a million dollars for false advertising! lol

large chains always find a source, often california or mexico, of course
the manager may not want to pay the few extra cents per tomato

Fucking A man, I'd definitely consider a class action suit. Tomatoes make your burger go round. And the lycopene in tomatoes offers some slight protection against the colon cancer you might get from eating too many of 'em.

Tomatoes these days are wak man.  I work at subway and I'm embarassed to put some of the tomatoes that I've seen on sandwitches.

SHit is nasty.  Be happy you're not gettin 'em.  I'd say 5% of the tomatoes I've dealt with over hte past 2 weeks have been ideal, 20% have been acceptable, adn 40% have been distubring

Tomatoes grown for these sorts of industries are crap in any case. They have been selected on the weight of the fruit, which has resulted in flavorless, watery tomatoes. I have never come across any fast food place with good tomatoes. Never. Indeed, proper tomatoes have only been becoming more popular since about 5 years here in NW Europe. I don't know about the situation in the US, but I'd be surprised if it's any better there.

yeah forget fast food u cant even buy decent tomatoes in your local grocery store. the semi-good tomatoes there are always over priced


my aunt grows tomatoes.. All I can say is, you haven't had a tomatoe until you've had the homegrown variety :drooling:

That's right. The good tomatoes are increasingly available at supermarkets, but at about 5x the price they should be. That's why I have some tomato plants on my balcony every year :thumbup:
