Sit ups/Crunches
    #12215314 -

How often should you do sit ups or crunches?
Can you do 'em every day?

I just started doing crunches in the morning and night.
I've always had trouble with situps; I think i have bad form or something. It's weird, I can barely manage 10-20 situps, but I can quite comfortably do 100 crunches.

Right now I do 100 crunches in the morning and then around the same at night.

well, I just started 2 days ago.
But hopefully I will. I guess if I am getting too sore I will adjust the workout frequency/intensity accordingly.

Just play it by ear, man. Observe how your body reacts, emphasize good form and if you're just getting into a routine, don't push yourself too hard.

I stick to the Military style workouts. Pullup, crunches and situps. Full situps are just hard on your back and neck, don't benefit much at all.

If your doing any kind of PE the best bet is to do it every second day, that way you let your muscles heal.

Personally I do 3 sets of 35 crunches now that I'm working out again. I'll be back up to 5 sets, and I always follow with standing on my hands and knees and lifting each leg up 10 times to strengthen the back muscles. You have to have balance. If you have too much on one side and not enough on teh other, your mid section has a hard time deciding where to lever on and it will damage the weak side (usually your lower back, the easiest part to damage)

Remember, more per set is for high strength, less per set but more sets, means more endurance and form (getting cut). Like Sampa said, listen to your body.

No.

Endurance =/= being cut...

If anything you get more cut doing High Intensity training.

This said, crunches/situps are pretty worthless on their own so be sure to have full body exercises in combined with crunches and a healthy diet to see results.

I prefer the russian twist and leg lifts and crunches over situps. Plus I do a bunch of KB exercises that really hit the core.

Hell yeah man. I've been going to the Gym 2-5 times a week since January...  I do strength training every Wednesday and Saturday and Cardio on other days... I only missed one Saturday because of the snow storm the east coast got, but I did some stuff at home to try to compensate.

I haven't drank any alcohol in over 70 days, I don't eat fast food anymore, or fried food or anything that's ridiculously bad for you and generally eat pretty good... cut back on my sodium and fats and I cook balanced, healthy, home-cooked meals.

I was always a pretty active guy, but I sustained an injury that required several weeks of recovery, 4 weeks alone barely getting out of bed.  So I gained a shit load of weight because I was doped up on pain medicine and didn't care what I was doing to myself.

I'm 6'2", My driver's License I renewed a little over a year ago has me at 190lbs...

When I started this diet and exercise program... I weighed in at 229 lbs... and now I'm down to 217 lbs ... lost 12 lbs in 74 days and increased my weights (upper-body strength training) by 15 lbs.
Started lifting 60lbs for bicep curls, arm extensions (triceps) and shoulders, and now I'm at 75lbs.
Started bench press/chest press, Rear Delt, Fly, etc.etc. at 90lbs and now I'm up to 105lbs
Plus I do grip training and various low intensity free weights and stretching too.

And since it's been getting less unbearable with the weather outside, I've started training for cycling season... late spring/summer I do 100 mile tours and shit... I've already totaled about 44 miles of riding so far in just a few days... hitting the trails Friday and Sunday too .

I'm thinking now that I lost some weight and I'm getting extremely active again, that perhaps I should do some crunches and get the 6-pack abs going.
I really wanna get back to 190-200 lbs, depending on how much muscle I end up building.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input.

Glad to hear about your progress, OP.  When your gym membership expires, you should give Kettlebells a try - you can do 'em from home!  No travel required

I have to say the kettlebells have to be one of the best ways to work out in the world.. I've done a lot of different things but working out with them gives you an exceptional gain in endurance and strength and I've noticed more results in just a few months with them more than I was getting by running or doing heavy weights for well over a years worth of training, the intensity of the kettlebells is amazing! With a great diet these things turn you into a beast no question! :yesnod:
