Plus, weather... gotta protect onself against wind/rain/snow/sleet/sunburn in sensitive areas.  Clothes just make more sense.

Generally speaking for two reasons. Control and religious upbringing. Both sort of go hand in hand.

A naked human is a symbol of naturality and freedom. It also directly reveals the truth that a human being is really an animal, and not something higher that civilized culture makes us believe.

Control is lost when a human voluntarily leaves his clothes behind and becomes naked. It makes everybody else concealing their skin look silly. The man or woman who isn't shy about his beasthood becomes a threat to the people nearby covering up their very nature. That's my opinion, that's how I see it.

As for the whole worry about rape and sexual harassment that would supposedly ensue if anybody were allowed to be naked in public, that is an American thing I think. I lived in Germany for many years and people have no issues regarding nudity in general. Of course they don't all walk down the streets naked, but they sure do gather in city parks and even drive naked (according to German law it's allowed to drive completely in the nude because you are on your property, your car) and toplessness on the beach is of course no question. This is not to say there aren't incidents, like the occasional drunkard on the street dropping his pants, but these types of situations are expected, especially when Oktoberfest is at its height. Germany is as much a part of western civilization as its next neighbor. But it basically boils down to general acceptance, starting with the way children are taught by their parents about nudity and that it is nothing to be ashamed of that gradually molds a social climate where nudity is seen as normally natural rather than as something explicit and taboo, a domain occult that must be kept silent.

Only in America have I seen a hundred young people stand in a wide circle around a single naked man who is being tased by policy enforcers doing absolutely nothing to defend the man. It's a damn shame and I shrug at how people defend their conditioning with statements such as "my eyes would bleed."

Intrinsically being naked is one of the purest acts of liberty. IMHO a society's reaction to nakedness is a mirror directly reflecting the freedom, or lack of it, that the general population allows.

If we're thinking of the same video, the guy was being a fucking noob :shrug:

It is the law, that was the events policy... nobody else was naked... the police gave him a SHITLOAD of chances and at any point he could have put some pants back and walked away to enjoy the music.

Why would I defend him, I go to festivals to enjoy music not to fight for someone that wants to be naked.

Who is to say that those with unusual sexual urges weren't made worse by strict laws on nudity and sexuality? Nudity doesn't equate to sexuality yet most of the only places where you can see nudity is in sexual setting ie Strip club. People shouldn't be ashamed to be naked or feel the need to hide behind clothes.

Sure there are some people I wouldn't want to see naked but if being nude makes them happy then who I am to tell them they're wrong? They're not physically hurting anyone or ruining my pursuit of happiness. Why should I be against the human form and all the shapes it takes?
