Smoking In Public Places

What are your thoughts on cigarette smoking being banned in public places?
I think it's fine. Only place I want to see smoking(not pot) is bars, cigar shops, and homes.

I am against any government body banning smoking in privated-owned businesses. If the owners want to allow smoking, then so be it. And if the customers do not want to be around smoking in such businesses, they have the right to go elsewhere.
I support no smoking bans in public (paid by taxes) places that are indoor. That's it.

Yeah here in Idaho (this is a very recent law too) you can smoke in bars, bowling alleys, and tobacco shops, which is fine with me (and I smoke a lot). But I've never had a problem with it, my decision to pollute my lungs is just that, my decision. I woldn't force anybody to do something the didn't want to do simply because I enjoy it. I see no difference here.
I've really only had one problem since this law was passed (it also state you can't smoke within 20 or 30 feet withing public entrances can't remember the exact number.) And that was with some self righteous bitch who though I was standing to close to the door, but I stepped back and let her go in in her high and mighty ways. I will admit as well it doesn't suck not being able to smoke while I study at Dennys anymore.

I just wish it was optional in NYC. Some establishments should have the option to CHOOSE to be smoking establishments, and there should have been a three-month window set up for the transition, in case employees of places that would remain or become smoking establishments didn't want to stay there and they could then have an easier time finding work elsewhere.

I really don't have a problem with it other than if they ban smoking in private places as bio stated. People who don't smoke don't need to be smelling that shit. I think a better solution would be if people were more curtious smokers, but obviously that is not going to happen.

I agree, smoking is a choice, it shouldn't be mandatory. I try my hardest to respect the rights of everybody. Some people though just need to chill out, i.e. straight edgers, anti-tobacco extremists. If I'm smoking and I'm not near you, I could do without the dirty looks and fake coughs.

you should be allowed to smoke outdoors in any public place or indoors in any privately owned place where the owner permits it. same goes for urinating.

In Toronto, they've pretty much banned cigarette smoking from public venues entirely. I've seen maybe a bar/strip club here and there that allows it, under the condition you smoke in designated areas only, and I'm not even sure how legal THAT is. It kinda sucks especially on the TTC (subway) when you're waiting outside for the bus and want to spark one...the whole point of all this crap was because one waitress who worked at this bar for about 20 years or something got cancer, and she was not even a smoker...it's sole, alleged cause is second-hand smoke...so that's why they're being so extreme. Someone told me the fines are about $5000, if you're caught on subway property. Which is bullshit since I've seen many bus drivers puffing away illegally....

I like the law, but if they can smoke cigarettes than cigars should be OK too. I don't see how cigars are worse than cigarettes.

Back in November they banned smoking on the State Capital grounds.
The legislatures excluded themselves from this ban though. Typical!

given that many resturants set aside a small area, generaly enclosed for a smoking section, a few resturant chains went to the extreme of spending millions in development and installation of a 'smoke curtain' to seperate the 2 areas just for the state to ban smoking a year later. I hold the same position that you do.
