i just got a new dog, and i think he is racist

yeah so i got a german sheppard.  hes a pretty good dog.  a couple years old and needed a good home so i took him in.

well, here is the issue.  on of my wifes friends came over, a black woman, and the dog totally changed in temperment and snapped at her.  i also had at that time a few guys doing work on my floor, a white guy and a black guy, and the dog also reacted aggressively toward the repair guy.  well my wifes friend starts goin off about how my dog is RACIST!!

so now everyone thinks im a racist too. 

i need advice SA, what would you do?  should i keep the dog and just try and keep him away from blacks?  or should i try and train him to like them?  whats the deal?

im really at a loss :sad:

Same way you would learn the dog not to bark at all other things too.
Whenever he does, go angry apeshit "NOOOO!!!!" on him. If he continues after you yell, pull him towards the ground in the neckskin.

If this is consistent behavior it sounds like a job for a black dog trainer.

That will backfire.  He needs immediate correction when he misbehaves and immediate reward when he does the right thing.

You can't have a racist dog, its awkward and really bad things can happen.

If he's 2 years old he can still learn new tricks.

Don't reach for the euthasol just yet - the dog is displaying a normal conditioned behavior (like chewing on the couch) which he can unlearn.

He is not racist, but his previous owner probably was and the dog in his neverending desire to please  picked it up, adopted the behavior and got rewarded for the behavior.

To us humans its a fucking disgrace.  To the dog its just a trick he learned.  He is not racist, the trick is.

The dog needs correction when he does it wrong, reward when he does it right and preferably positive experiences (rewards from) his former target group.

I don't know what your talkin about man, trick or not a dog CAN be racist hell. my fucking rat terrier is and i think its funny as hell.

then again, i love to go out and partaay with my friends. some are black,white,hindu,spanish (hell i'm cuban), gay it don't matter.

though, 90% of this worlds population is worthless imo

Dog's pick up emotional cues from their owners, so much so that if the owner dislikes a person or group of people the animal will "join in".

The past owner was a rascist.

I kinda have to laugh when I hear this, though its not good for a dog, especially alsations which people are often weary about first time they meet a new one, its kinda funny. I've lived with dogs my whole life and they do pick up all sorts of behaviour.

I used to have a pound dog, boxer x staffy she lived to a grand age of 18, we got her at maybe 6 months, i was 18 too when she was put down, so I'd known her my whole life. She was a sweet, friends with anyone dog, would have made a terrible guard dog, so friendly... except for one strange habit she would go ballistic and attack anyone wearing overalls that came to our house or in public. It was damn bizzare, i wonder if in her first six months she was maltreated by some prick who always wore overalls.

Next time a person of color is around, and his temperment turns on the defensive, get his attention and look him right in the eye, and in a stern voice, say.

"What did I tell you about growling at Negros?"

I have 3 Dogs and if my wife is ever unsure about someone they go into physcho protective mode yet we have no problem sitting with them and babies and kids they are that docile normally.

They have an unbelievable way of picking up on our emotions and acting them out.
