Bonnaroo arrival times
    #12135288 -

This year is my first time heading over to Bonnaroo. One thing that's been on my mind is what is the best strategy to get a good campsite or closest to the festival grounds(without going VIP or in the tent only sections)

I've looked on the Bonnaroo forums and they said that if you get there wednesday night, you'll end up getting put in the back of the camping area, and people said that if you get there thursday morning you'll have the best chances of getting a close campsite.

From previous times I've been at festivals, they let the first people get the best campsites. Do they not organize it like that at Bonnaroo? or are the forums trollin'. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Also is the furthest campsite 3 miles away? somebody told me that

I was way back in pod 1 which is pretty far away and by itself (the one I think you where talking about) it was about a 20 minute walk. I arrived around 7am on thursday. my guess for a good spot would be to get to the gate around 9am maybe. Who knows its pretty crazy when you get there cars and cars everywhere. Just go whenever it is most convenient for you. When I got there i got right to the gate in like 5 minutes, where as just a hour or so later people were waiting hours to get in. Besides when you get there you can just stay in centeroo all day. Also if you really want to get close just ditch your car once you get a spot and go to the tent only camp, its right in front of the centeroo arch.

They fill up the campsites so quick that you can jew other people out of spot and get a really big spot.  Act like a dumbass driver and pull in like 10 feet away from the car that was in front of you, they're moving so fast the car behind you will already be pulling in on your other side and the parking people wont be able to do anything about it.

The spots closest to centeroo are reserved mostly for VIP ticket holders so you'll be kind of far away to begin with but still just a short walk down shakedown st. to centeroo.

The camp grounds are huge so you'll have to walk a lot no matter what but you get used to it.

This is absolutely the truth at Bonnaroo. We found this out first hand. A friend drove there early and arrived at about 3am and went in and he got stuck in the shittiest farthest lot like the rumor has it. We got into traffic around 7am and got in at about 9am and got a killer spot a small walk from either Shakedown st. or the entrance. Time your arrival correctly!

I'm guessing the idea is they dint want a bunch of riff raff hanging out around super early to scope out the best parking spots, so they award bad ones to early comers and then it gets better when that lot is full and the line is huge on the highway and then spots get progressively worse. Remember your biggest risks are driving there, driving past the 100 odd cops and emergency personnel, and then making it through the search which can vary from moderate to outright terrible. Remember they know what they're after, and would rather confiscate it and let u slide then get bad publicity. The 2nd dumbest place to lose ur stash is going in through the mild security pat down going into center roo, theres literally garbage bags of confiscated illegals from the careless ones. Be safe!

A buddy of mine was waiting for a friend to get through the gate and say that there was a giant bag of drugs and paraphernalia next to the gate.  He calmly walked up, picked it up, and walked into centeroo.  He had a shit tone of stuff, some of it was obviously bad, but there were a bunch of pipes and some stuff actually was well raped enough to be good.

I went in 2007. We got there wednesday night and that is correct they make the first comer's camp pretty far away. We had a spot out in bumfuck with a long walk, but some of my friends got there thursday morning and got a sweet spot. I'd wait until thursday to show up if I was to go again(But I wouldn't ever pay 300 bucks to go back to frat-a-roo. unless they add some Shpongle/ Ozric Tentacles/ Further or String Cheese), and smaller festivals & gatherings are where its at, generally more like-minded heads and better vibes. but have fun.
