A form major barre chord pain

So after 2 months of a lot of practice, I've gotten pretty solid with major, minor, and major 7th bar chords with the root on both the E and A string.  My problem is... if I have to stay on an A form major barre chord for long, my hand starts to really really hurt.  I've been putting ice there now (between my thumb and index finger), and that usually buys me about 3 minutes of time to practice my exercises before it starts hurting again.  Should I still be patient and wait for increased strength, or do you think my form might be off?  The pain feels different than the general fatigue that I eventually feel with the other chord shapes.

Form:  I make sure my thumb is lined up with my index finger and positioned in the middle of the back of the fretboard.  My bottom of my guitar is about where my waist is.

yep, just wait for the increased strength. Don't over do it now, it'll only lead to further injury.

BTW, if you have big flexible fingers, you can do what I do for root 5 Major barre chords: Barre with the first finger, then fill the rest of the chord out by barring your third finger across the 5th, Octave and 3rd of the chord, lift the knuckle of your 3rd finger up bit at the end to allow the high 5th to ring out. Alternately you can simply not play the high string but barre your fingers like a power chord, just make sure to sound the 3rd of the chord. It's not considered "proper" technique, but it's fairly common amongst blues and jazz players.

I have tiny fingers, unfortunately.  I've just been muting the high 5th, unless I'm practicing arpeggios, in which case I fumble around to get the high 5th ringing.
