I recorded it on my daughters 97 strat...one of the sweetest sounding strats I know....  there is a few mistakes in it....:tongue2: (but not as many as I expected)

Yea, she is half Okinawan.  I was there in the Navy for 4 years.  My ex is Okinawan, who are Japanese, but they are more like Taiwan people in culture and appearance.  My ex was a good woman, too bad I fucked that one up.  :tongue2:

I did a lot of studying of chords, scales from a jazz and rock standpoint.  I studied rock guitarists Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page, and jazz guitarists Joe Pass and John Mclaughlin exclusively when I was young, and I learned to read music.  I would also, one of the most useful thing, is get songbooks of piano music like Steely Dan, etc, and transpose the piano parts to guitar, and learn how to re-voice them all over the neck of the guitar.  Then I did a lot of finger exercises.  I never really played guitar in a band though, I played bass.  If you have guitar pro and are a guitar player, I can send you some exercises that are very beneficial to the fingers, really get your speed up.  I find Guitar Pro to be one of the most useful study tools there is for guitar and also for writing.  Right now I'm learning 'Waltz for Debby' by Bill Evans and 'My Foolish Heart' (John Mclaughlin Version) on Acoustic.

powertab  is good software too, not as flashy as guitar pro.

Guitar pro has some quirks, they need to update it.  It's cheap, and a lot of tabs are available for it.  One thing I didn't mention about learning to play was that when I was in the Philippines for 3.5 years early in my Navy days, my neighbor was a professional guitar player at one of the big clubs in Olongapo.  He gave me a LOT of lessons about guitar playing.  His wife said he had won the all-Philippine amateur competition when he was 17.  He used to tell me if you can't play it clean without effects, you can't play it.  Subsequently I learned everything ultra-clean and paid attention to cutting out slop.

I'm lucky I have this acoustic...  a martin D-41.  It is sweet, but has a stiff action.  I had a D-15 also, and a 73 Garcia classical, both were stolen.

Japan has become pretty americanized as of recent. maybe she was of the new generation of japanese girls.

I've been putting off teaching myself how to guitar for ever. this has inspired me to start right now!  :jamming:

nah she wasn't americanized.  She was old-fashioned, older than I.  Oh well....make sure Envix if you get a guitar get a good one, nothing worse than trying to make good music on a crappy guitar.  But since you play piano, you should keep working on that, practice the shit out of scales and chords, read music.  You should learn some Bill Evans stuff....Then you will know all the theory you would ever want.:tongue2:

get guitar pro.  Get a big book of chords.  Practice finger exercises and scales everyday.  Learn the fretboard. Play with a metronome.  Make sure you work on songs everyday too.

Sounds nice man.  I started playing it and after about a minute my wife (who is sitting at her computer behind me) asked what I was listening to.  She said it immediately reminded her of her father.  He's a hell of a musician and she grew up listening to him play a lot.
