To be honest, I didn't really listen to much of anything past their first album, but this song is fucking badass

I think so, a buddy gave me some a while back and I was
prepping them for parachuting.

I really don't like Opeth. I've seen them once live too at a festival, and they seemed even more boring.

And no, I'm not some sort of prog-hater who needs his songs under 5 minutes... prog's my favourite genre. I have a few songs over an hour long that I enjoy. Everything about Opeth lacks emotion for me though; their music is so formulaic.

Just my opinion. :shrug:

Looks like I decided to come back to the Shroomery after missing out on this metal thread. There's so many subgenres that it mostly boils down to taste (I love almost all metal subgenres).

I'm mostly into Progressive Metal such as Opeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, etc. However, I do love most of the Melodic Death Metal from between '93 to '02. Nowadays I'm really into Gothic/Symphonic Metal.

Most of the bands I like have already been mentioned in this thread, but no one has mentioned Madder Mortem, they are truly a tripper's treat; Imagine slow tempo Doom/Dark Metal meets Prog meets Gothic meets just about whatever the fuck type metal (and different musical styles in general) that they want to incorporate. Madder Mortem is hands down the most unique and absurdly weird band I have ever listened to, and I love them for it.

I used to love Opeth until all of their albums started to sound the same, so i can somewhat agree on the formulaic thing. I lost most of my interest in them, but

Still Life, and My Arms Your Hearse are their best albums, in my opinion

Yeah, my friend lent me some of his Opeth CD's, and Still Life was the best.

I never got around to listening My Arms, Your Hearse though.

I also tried Deliverance, which was probably second best, Blackwater Park, Morningrise, Watershed and Damnation. Damnation had some quite nice ideas actually, but it could have been much more well executed I reckon.
