probably not.  laptops aren't nearly as easy as desktops to build.  there's not really an industry standard in design with laptop chassis like there is for pc cases.

imo, you'd be better off just buying a full laptop.

however, if you're more interested in making a project out of it than anything else, there are ways you can build your own.

i'm not really sure if i can offer any references.  all of my regular electronics and computer part websites are US exclusive.  sorry mang.

for example, www.newegg.com is my go-to like 90% of the time and i know it doesn't ship to aussieland.  however, you could use it as a source of reviews to help you narrow down the model you'd like.  if you start narrowing down on a specific model, just google for more reviews.

hrm... i know what you're asking, but quite honestly i haven't got the expertise to give you an adequate answer.

when i'm in the market for a new expensive product, i personally usually just ignore brand names at first and look at specs and reviews.  then once i think i've settled on something, i do tons more research on the model as well as the company's customer service record.

I've had good experiences with both Toshiba and HP. Toshibas tend to be more reliable than HP's though, I understand, although the difference is probably irrelevant.

There are no brands to really steer clear of, although personally, I'm not a huge fan of the more obscure Taiwanese and Chinese brands. Larger, well-established brands like Asus and Acer are just fine though, IME, and they usually offer good value for your money.

I have a HP laptop and it has lasted me for years. I will probably always go for HP for the reliability factor.

Alienware??

If it was me i might consider hanging back a couple of months - intel moving to a new architecture now with the Core i3/5/7 platform. Gonna see some big boosts outta that, though i appreciate for gaming a good grphx card is important too!

If you know what you're doing, I'd say go with Dell. The hardware is great, just hope you don't have to deal with anyone for support. I've had this Dell lappy for 4 years now and it runs like a Champ!

Dell is notorious for using cheap, low-quality parts in their machines. I've encountered this personally as well. Not to mention they're infamous for completely worthless customer service. Do not buy Dell.

if i were you, and buy a computer for gaming, id buy a normal stationary computer or its components and build it myself.

way better for the purpose of gaming in my eyes.

laptops arent made for games, they are made for work, therefor buy a IBM/LENOVO laptop for WORK or
build a standing pc yourself from scratch for gaming.

Eh, I didn't use their ram, I went with the cheapest available and upgraded it myself when I actually got it, and I got an upgraded nvidia card that I replaced the other nvidia with. But overall this laptop is just a beast. I drop $1400 on it and it's still goin strong
