There were many people out today, ran into 5 others, all who were having reasonably good luck. So, there is still plenty to go around. Looks like the temps will be dropping below freezing towards the end of the week though so get out there now! Have fun.

Luck on the West Sound isn't so great. The rain and temps are fine but the lack of alder mulch makes the search VERY difficult.
Territories covered range from Bremerton across the Hood Canal to Port Townsend.
I really believe that the ample supply of cedars and fir trees makes it easier and cheaper to put down more resistant mulch than alder out here. Plus the state and local gov't use virtually no mulch in the minimal landscaping they do.
But with all that, finds are still happening.. the habitat just sucks. Of course this is somewhat offset by the fewer number of hunters... I think Seattle is damn near trampled from what I've seen!
I'd like to find one or two more large patches before the season ends.. wouldn't we all!!
Good luck!

Isn't it possible to buy large quantities of alder mulch, and drop it in local flower beds? Or some other way to give your city more alder mulch for flower beds? I think seattle should petition that ALL bark mulch used in city flower beds must be alder and nothing else...My thought anyways....(I'm canadian!)

freazer,
I live in Shelton, WA. I want to go shroom hunting with someone who is going to FIND shrooms. I found ONE shroom that had a purplish spore print. Then, when i printed it for a longer amount of time, it came up very dark almost black. And I havent seen a single cyanescen in this entire area.
There are alder trees around here. I think they are mostly male alder, because they have the little cones on em, but there is no place which uses alder mulch, and definitely no place which produces cyanescens. I found some wavy caps in a park in Lacy, WA, but they had black stems and I think they were just starting to rot, and i couldnt ID them.
Do you know of any people in the Seattle area going on a massive shroom expedition? If so, reply via Private Message. I would like to shroom hunt with some experienced seattlites.
Psiclops.

what are you wasting your time for? Mushrooms are the ideal christmas present!

It's been a month since I've been out hunting. Living on the east side makes things complicated now that I'm totally broke and have a new baby. If I had my license I'd be over in a flash, but as it is only my wife is legal to drive but she only stays in motels and that's too expensive ;-P
Anyway, I'm still searching for a way to get over to Seattle and/or the Astoria region. Otherwise I'll have to settle for Cubensis and cacti

Hello there, me's thinks that the early freezes have been devastating to the South sound hunting. Let me know if any other south sounders have found any thing substantial.

cyans everywhere in the seattle area. also prolific fruitings of azures down in astoria. met a hottie local there last week and she showed me all the hot spots. (pun definitely intended) so I have been there all week just killing it since I have 2 weeks off from work. will be raiding seattle till the 23rd or so. will probably see you guys around.

Ryan:
I can't speak for Oly but I can tell you that I have had decent luck from Seattle on down towards Tacoma...In most cases I've had to root for them a bit.. none were just standing out in the open. I think the drought earlier in the season forced fruitings in protected areas (under ferns, at base of bushes etc.). I think if you dial in your habitat you may have better luck.. but what do I know its my first hunting season!
If I could I'd hunt every day on your side of the sound guys! Best of luck!
