Employment insurance fucks me

Ok; out of frustration, i am going to share my current predicament with you all.

So i knew i was getting laid off, but was planning on collecting Employment Insurance (EI) and using that as a stepping stone to get into some career development programs which would gain me funding for further schooling.

Seeing as i have a spotty job history I confirmed with my supervisor that i would have in excess of the 910hrs required by EI to collect, It was going to be close but i would be in excess by 20-30 hours....

Anyways, i got laid off a day early due to lack of work + was deathly sick nearly 2 whole days the previous week... (this was last wednesday.)

I picked up my Record of Employment today, and i have 904 employable hours, and i need 910 to collect.

I have been busy scheduling meetings and planning sessions with the career development funding agencies the past few days, and pretty much absolutely everything in my life is depending on collecting EI as soon as possible.

FUCKED for 6 hours, my fault - just a really shitty situation.

Seeing as i was well liked by my bosses, i am going to try and sweet talk them into a half day of work, or else i am going to try and find 1 days labour through labour ready.

FUCK. stressin out.

(FYI - once i am on EI i can get a free ride through a fabrication and advanced first aid training + become eligible for a government subsidized apprenticeship grant, Meaning the government pays half my wage to encourage employers to take me on as an entry level worker.)

hopefully your old bosses will take you on for a day's work.  I'm sure if you explain the situation to them, then they'll help you out.

No work around here though. Not sure if its worth moving to get into industry for 3 months before returning to school. Probably... i am pretty much ready to go, after i get this career prep EI stuff out of the way...

Lots of welding in Alberta.

No lying. The employer needs to send in my record of employment directly to the EI people, they already have it infact.

It is closely monitored and fraud is strictly punished.

In order to BS, you'd essentially have to have a friend with a registered business say you worked for them, and fill out all the paperwork and charge you taxes on your labour.

I should be able to find 6 hours of work in the next week - its just a pain in the ass.

you guys have temp agencies? I used to get day labor all the time from them. Often very fair pair too.

Yeah, no temp agencies around here. Just labour ready with bitch labour work.

Welding isn't a big trade around here, the few shops have a skilled workforce and rarely have openings - Although i might kick it up a notch and try and get on in a shop that builds Aluminum tanks ...

Im kind-of stressing about getting my foot in the door, it's been 3 months since i finished school.

Almost none of my class is employed in industry and same with the class before mine.

"willing and able to relocate" is key, in my situation.

Ultimately i am hoping to work in the Shipyards by this time next year...
