So I'm Watching Big Cat Diaries....

What I can't understand is how a Cheetah will take down this big animal.  Then the cat starts eating it, right but then a handful of other smaller carnivores move in for the kill and force the Cheetah out.  Why doesn't the Cheetah just kill the smaller animals?

Too much energy, and if it leaves the carcass something else will eat it...plus smaller carnivores hunt together and could cooperate and take down a cheetah, just as ancient man cooperated to take down mastodons.

I'm reading the wiki entry on cheetahs and it's pretty interesting to learn that they were actually used as pets by the ancient Egyptians and were also trained to hunt. 

How sweet would it be to have a pet Cheetah?

Typically, animals like Hyenas will move in when the cheetah is eating. They travel and packs and as a whole, they're most likely able to take down the cheetah. A few of them may die in the process, but when they're in numbers they can kill the cheetah.

The cheetah's prey certainly does run a lot until it's been caught.

They fight back but not very long.

Then the cheetah goes straight to the throat like all carnivores for the kill.

Well three MALE lions, forget about it. Typically, the males never hunt and just lay around all day (:awebig:) but if those jackals decided to fuck with them, that's a big mistake..

Usually you'll see one female hunting, and that's where it'll be dangerous for her if she runs into a pack of carnivores..

As for they prey, yeah, they'll put up a good fight by trying to haul ass in the other direction, but once that cat has them by the neck, they're toast..

I hate house cats, but big cats are so badass.
