when is the best time to pick mushrooms? day afer a rain?

alright me and my friend tried to go into the santa cruz mountains the first sunny day after it rained, and we stayed up there a good 4 hours and didn't find a single specimen other than these bulb looking fungi that were on a tree, without stem.. when is the best time to go hunt? i thought this would be a good time so it just doesn't make sense.. please any help would be greatful

It depends on what you're looking for. If you search for actives, wait a few days (like two to five) after a good rain. Well that's my 2 cents
