Ok I wanted to bump this thread with some more new artists


Theophilus London - his mixtape "This Charming Mixtape" has a heavy electronica influence.


Fashawn - His debut album just came out. He's one of CA's up and commers. He can definitely rhyme but Im not a fan of his voice.


Sene - I really don't know much about this guy but his new album was entirely produced by Blu, who is an excellent MC (lots of him on the mix I posted above). Pretty smooth song, great chilling music.

i just started the second one.  immediately i'm like "i know that harp!".  that's joanna newsom.  haha.  hilarious.  never thought i'd hear that in a rap song.  good shit though.

here's a little gem that a lot of people haven't heard of. IMO lyrically they are 1 or 2

That is one sick rapper Big L cheers for posting that.

Chester P is my lyrical no.1 poetically anyway which is preferred style. He is one hella intense dude, and his hop is much more philosophical/message based than anything I've heard.

yeah dilla is without a doubt by far the best by a long way.
just heard alot solidly recently..

flying lotus makes tunes..
although he is branching out of hip hop into other genres..

I love picking up and identifying samples in hip hop. If you listen to a wide variety of music then you'll undoubtedly recognize tons of them.

See if anyone knows this piano/vocal sample used in this first video (the vocals come in around 1:06). Check to see if you're correct in the 2nd one :lol:

The only thing good about Hip Hop now is the beats. None of what rappers interests me. I'm not living in a ghetto. I'm not black. And I'm not a gangster. People like Aesop Rock share some things with common with me, but thats about it. Other than a select few Hip Hop can die for all I care.

Oh and Jedi Mind Tricks blows. Army of Pharoes is much better.

well your pretty damn negative....  those are tunes ^  and there are many more.

and even if your not interested in what they're talking about then you can at least appreciate the cross rhythms of it over the beat / music..
