The "universe" peoples.

We are the fruit of the universe. We are the product of billions of years of cosmic evolution. We have came OUT of the universe, not into it.

The universe defines us....we don't define it. We CAN'T define it.

Alan Watts is like Tupac.  Just when I thought I've heard about all his books/lectures, I see something that looks new...

But they're all the same, just a different way of explaining "it".

Im at work so thought id listen to it, why not!?

It started form the very beggining...

"I beleive that if we are honest with ourselves, that the most fascinating problem in the world is 'who am i?', what do you mean? what do you feel when you say the word 'I'?"

"I dont think there could be a more fascinating preoccupation than that"

At last, someone agrees with me, even if he is dead...

My friends mom turned me on to Alan Watts when I was about 14, I guess that would be about 11 years ago, HA!  I was a typical evangelical christian kid in the bible belt who started having doubts and Alan Watts came along at just the right time to put me over the edge!

I had the pleasure of working with his son Mark Watts to produce some audio recordings a few years ago.

I've got at least 30 hours or so of his lectures in various formats, the guy opened my eyes. I cut my psychedelic and philosophical teeth on Alan Watts!  Glorious glorious glorious, I can't say enough about the man, although I don't worship him, I do say that I respect the man deeply, probably more than any other thinker this century, because his words were so important to my life.

One thing that's important to do when listening to Alan Watts is to pay attention to his namedropping.
After you feel like you've digested a bit of what he has to say, check out the guys he learned from.

Someone else who was influenced by Alan Watts....or rather, influenced Alan Watts...

is J. Krishnamurti.

There are tons of videos of him on youtube as well....He is an interesting speaker and has an important message to give to humanity. If you like Alan Watts I would strongly recommend checking him out.

What exactly did he learn? He died fairly young from alcoholism.

I became really interested in Daoism and upon looking for a book pertaining to dao, I found one by this Alan Watts.  I think it was Dao and the Beat way or something like that.

Anyhow, I was sooo sucked into the book and loved the way Watts compared and talked about things that I had to know more about this guy.

The man is awesome.  There are some things he says that I really don't get.  I understand why he's saying it, but maybe I just don't see the need in it for me.

Can one both see the beauty and isness of life while simultaneously be trying to escape it? Seems to me he did not 'get' his own words.
