You can live on disability, your just not going to have many luxuries.

I paid into Social Security for 25 years and I draw $1200 a month.

I got approved about 6 months ago and there is a 2 year wait for health benefits.

I get 1/2 ($1,000)what my dad gets. Due to my age, I was disable before 22..When my dad dies I get 75%...All tax free...

Yeah , $1,000 isn't enough to live off of though.  That's enough for rent + utilities pretty much.

But, you know your going to get it, every month..If your on SSI you can get reduced rent and food stamps....

You get more money, if you don't have a wife.....But they make you spend it, you cant have over 2,000 in you bank (I thank with SSI or was it SSA :confused:) You can work but you can't make over 1,500.A way around that, is to get paid in cash....

Something is better than nothing. My biggest thing is being able to take care of medical situation, whether it be through medicare or whatever.

I work for my dad a few times a month when I'm feeling well enough and he can pay me under the table, so that plus benefits and medical and I think I'll be able to get back out on my own.

If this doesn't work then I'll just pull a "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" and start smoking crack to get on welfare. :grin:

You can't get food stamps here if you make more than $1000 a month.
Well, that's not true, my friend brings in $1009 a month and they give him $15 in food stamps :rolleyes:

See, this is my ultimate goal. I want to use it to get my life back on track so that I can be in the position to someday not need it any longer.

I'm not going to leech the system, I'm not going to use it to get shitfaced all day long. I'm not going to use it to go on crack binges and waste taxpayer dollars.

I'm going to use it as it's intended. Assuming of course I get approved.

Hell I even started taking Topamax the other day to help curb my drinking problem in anticipation of it. I want to become a responsible and productive member of society.

I was on food stamps for a year, after my wife left. It was only $175 per month

The electric/water company doesn't give a discount for people on disability
and most rental houses don't have to give discounts either.
The only advantage to being on disability is the guaranteed health care.
and it is two years before it goes into effect

When you bounce from job to job, you never get the health coverage you need.
And if you have a mental health issue (BPD for me) most insurance
companies will only pay for 10 visits to a psychiatrist/therapist per year.

If we had a public health option like every other democracy, I could deal with job bouncing. If I could be medicated for my illness then I wouldn't have to worry about being fired, or having to work a shit job just for health insurance.
