What are some good apartment dogs?(no tiny dogs please!)
    #11199585 - 10/07/09 10:15 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

assuming that the tenant is allowed to have dogs, what are some nice breeds? I was thinking of a Siberian Husky but I read that they can get bored very easily and mess up the place..also they shed a massive amount. My girlfriend had a German Shepherd when she was little and it was a great dog supposedly. There will be two cats around as well. I am trying to raise as a puppy but what are some kick ass dogs to have around? I don't want any tiny dogs..definitely no chihuahua! I can't stand the non-stop barking.

suggestions?

Australian Shepard.  They're super smart, medium sized, and lovable!  Although you'll need to take it out to play since you live in an apt -- my dogs love playing frisbee (australian shepards are like border collies, they're bred to herd sheep).

An Aussie shepherd is NOT a good "apartment dog" No working breeds suit such conditions.

OP, get a cat/fish/ferret.

German Shephards are great dogs but I can't imagine having one in an apartment, it seems unfair to the dog because it needs a lot of space and a big yard to run around in. I know you said no tiny dogs..but what about pugs? They're so damn cute.

A pug would be a good apartment dog.

OP.  Get something small and lazy, not small yappy and high strung.

I breed Staffordshire bull terriers (no good for apts) but I have a french bulldog also, the frenchie would be a great apartment dog.

a greyhound does not require a lot of living space; but they do require lots and lots of exercise

yeah that is a great point on how I should restrict a dog of its natural desire for activity

Make sure you get a breed with a natural tendency for laziness and you're set.

Any dead, stuffed dog is good in an apartment.

Or a legless dog. They're OK also.
