Tripping this weekend, afraid of THE AWKWARD (please help)

Last weekend I ate 4 hits of some great shit at my cabin with D C and K. I have known them all for years and have had special trips with each of them. Everyone had an absolutely magical time together, one of my best trips in a while to begin with. Zip lines, great weather, good atmosphere, plenty to do... then we came back from outside and something happened to us that hasn't happened to me in about a year..

The Awkward..

Everyone got wrapped up in their own thing and suddenly there was NOTHING to talk about. D was making drumming patterns on the floor while lying on it, K was painting (but not really because she spent an hour on a very basic doodle), I was playing with my dogs, and C was trying to whip up some conversation that was for the most part ignored(i don't know why). I had to get out of that vibe, i cant even explain it was- like friends who had just had this incredible time were now just people forced to be sitting in the same room as each other.  K became in denial she was still tripping and started trying to act like she wasn't. C was focused on everything everyone else was doing. And D still was making his obscure music on the floorboards. I left the room and finally connected with C about what I felt was going on, but I still couldn't get out what i really meant. So i wrote down on a piece of paper the only formula that could begin to explain,

(make movement)>insert one liner about movement here<

To make this more clear I'll give an instance. K's paintbrush touched mine while trying to get the same color, she quickly pulled back her hand and said " oh I'm so sorry i was just trying to use that blue too but didn't realize you were using it at the time so i pulled my hand back"

I'm telling you people imagine that for everything anyone did, it drove me MAD, and i would literally have to walk away and be alone or else I would start to laugh at the whole situation and  K and D (a.k.a Mr& Ms Imnottrippinganymore) would look at me like I was the one who was crazy. After a while i did believe i was crazy and nothing was going on, which led me to one of those " everything i say and do is a complete embarrassment and failure" moments which led me to " do i even know these people, do they know me?"


I guess I'm getting besides the point..I'm doing it again at my cabin this weekend but this time with my sister and some of her my friends (my acquaintances).. I usually don't have a problem with keeping the vibes in a good place but now I'm afraid of The Awkward taking place again but this time being stuck with people I barley know.

what do you do when the group of people your with all get on different pages?
how do you bring everyone back together on the trip?
When things get weird what kind of actives can you do alone to prevent yourself from going into a bad place?

it would be a great help for any suggestions, thanks!

Probably should have gone back outside with everyone.

I dont know, I havent ever tripped with that many people.

There have been awkward moments, but either me or my friend will break it up by saying something silly about the fact that it is awkward. OR you say to the other person "hey! you wanna see something really neat?! "

And then have them follow you somewhere a little ways away, and then say " You just followed me to the (whereever) , isnt that neat?! " :grin:

"the blue is for everyone to use! dont think about that no more! And I know thats why you pulled your hand back, its ok! Everything is ok! Dont think about that! That is really neat what you just drew! you drew blue! "

If a lack of conversation is what you pick "awkward vibes" out of....... make conversation , light hearted and silly is usually good.

maybe start popping off some drumming patterns of your own......


If all this fails....... maybe, some of the people wanted some alone time, maybe ask everyone if they want to do something, or if they would like to be alone...... actually, this should almost be a no-brainer...... house rules says : If someone doesnt want to be in the group for awhile, that is ok, they can go to whatever room if they want.

I mean.... it is perfectly fine if everyone isnt all connected all the time.......... Everyone should understand that.

AND next, a feeling of connection , or relationship is established by action and counter action........... gotta stimulate and respond.

i guess newtons first law relates back to more than just physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction... i DO need to work on being more light hearted when strange times happen sometimes i guess i just get caught up on my head.. great advice! thanks!

dude i had a similar experience years ago with some acid we were all at a friend apartment one person had just got their tongue pieced and went and sat in a chair and thought his teeth were breaking apart and there was blood flowing out of his mouth, the other was stuck with a guitar stroking one string over and over and over, and another was unsuccessfully trying to roll a joint for about 3hrs so i put in liquid television and within minutes everyone was in the room and everything turned around. my suggestion is that if things go south put a good trip video and see what happens

the max amount of people i tripped with is 5, me included all on LOVE hits. if things get awkward for lack of subjects to talk about, just start talking about your trip experience, or past drug experiences. if your outdoors, go exploring! the world is a playground on Syd. if your indoors, put on some trippy music or vids. play instruments if you can. another good thing is to use your trips to get to know one another better. share life experiences and talk about what ever pops into your tripping mind. philosophy, religion, existence, etc.... deep thoughts make for one hell of a trip. so long as you are having a good trip, you can keep the vibes going and everyone will have a great experience.

I appreciate your insights and can relate. Remember that they are insights though, particularly concerning these roles - You can be the joker, but not the laugher!

So besides laugher, you were a dog-person?

I am very curious of how you and your dogs, you and your friends and your dogs, and your friends and your dogs got along. Not just to add two and two, but something I am basically interested in. So could you elaborate at all on this? Anything that you found interesting as human phenomena bouncing off, or going through them/you?

That damn Awkward. Gotta go with your gut. Feel things out. Go where you wanna go, dammit. Zone out to tunes or whatever. You shouldn't have to be the glue that holds the structure of your social group. Go with the freakin' flow, man. The awkward serves a purpose. It can show you things.

Sometimes I find that even music cannot save you from the Awkward. The euphoria is replaced with a hot flash like sensation which makes listening to music utterly worthless.

some ipods also have video. Im just trying to help everyone is different so some things that work for some will not work for others and vice versa and yes for the most part sir you are correct but it is not totally worth it cause their is a chance that maybe the music may isolate an individual from their current situation enough that they an enjoy whats left of the trip. either that or i could have been a sign that you need to move a little deeper with your trips (i am trying not to read to much into it im just so damn analytical)

some interesting thoughts here. i have had numerous trips turn sour because of the awkward. me and my two best friends would be sitting in our wicked cool trip room listening to some chill music then all of a sudden..... "ummm what now?"

that has caused me to go down some bad roads i could not turn around on.

a few times though i was saved by marathons of batman on tv. the oldschool cartoon one. batman kicks so much ass!

nowadays i generally trip by myself for that very reason.
