math help plz

Find the equation of the line tangent to the graph y=x² at the following point: (1/2, 1/4)

So what i've done so far is....

y=x²

lim h --> 0 f(x+h) - f(x) = f(x+h)²-x²
h h

and when u factor that... f(x) = 2x+h

and since h -> 0, it pretty much is f(x) = 2x

so what the hell do I do with (1/2, 1/4) ? the answer is supposed to be y = x - 1/4

Take the derivative of the function y=x². y'= 2x. Plug 1/2 in for x to get the slope of the line at the point (1/2,1/4): y'= 1.

Plug into point slope form: (y-y₁)=m(x-x₁) : (y-1/4)= 1(x-1/2)

y-1/4= x-1/2. +1/4 to both sides:

y=x-1/4.
