Fuck my Math book

Ever since i can remember inside every fucking math book.....it will tell you how to do all the easy problems and show you step by step.

HOWEVER twords the end of the assignment, they dont show you have to do the harder problems, not to mention the fact they will always include SOME problem with a form that you never even read in the chapter!

Yeah math books are a bunch of bastards. You can't even read the shit. I hate it when they don't show you how to do the really hard ones. Actually my differential equations book that I am using this semester is the best math book i have ever used.

Thats the thing with math... you need to understand the concept because there are an infinite number of different kinds of problems.  If you just memorize steps you are screwed.

My calculous book should be burned in a fire.  It was all about the bullshit easy problems without mentioning hard ones.


They don't even have to be examples, just give the rules and I'll figure it out.

But when they specifically don't give general rules, do give specific examples, and then you have idea how to integrate a problem that combines several examples and rules that do not indicate their compatibility you are fucked.


Math books suck, glad I'm done w/ calc.

Heh, I dont really understand what you think is bullshit.

Seriously though, in algebra classes the students usually get away with just memorizing steps and rules without understanding shit (which I think is a travesty).  But being proficient in more 'advanced' mathematics (calculus and beyond) isnt about memorizing steps and rules... its about creativity and problem solving skills.  I think this is one of the things that shocks beginning calc and diff eq students the most... they are used to just memorizing steps and getting the answer which doesn't substitute for the analytical problem solving skills they need.

yeah, I guess its not bullshit, I agree with what you said, I'm just saying that its impossible to know the general rules if your not told them and their not in the book.  And hence, math books, especially my calc book, suck.


I bought a bunch of other books to make it through calc so I could see the examples OR simply written out general rules for various situations


In algebra, sure, their is often no need for as wide a range of examples or geneeral rules.  Still, I can recall some areas that are problematic...


Really though, at my school, algebra is a pain anyways.  I don't know why people don't just take calc (if they are required to) and get it over with.  Algebra doesn't help that much, and the extra work is hugely disproportionate to the help in calc.
