Ball Python?

A close friend of mine has a 3 ft ball python he is trying to sell. He just got a cat and plans on buying a bearded dragon, and as such wants to get rid of the snake.

Now, I've been considering picking up a reptile for a while now. The snake is extremely docile (he handles it all the time), and won't get much bigger. He said he'd sell it to me for $100, which will include the snake, its cage (not sure the exact size at the moment, but it's certainly big enough), and a heating pad for the cage.

Deal or no deal? Anyone with ball pythons (or snakes in general) care to shed some light? I had a bearded dragon as a kid so this won't be my first reptile. I also hear they make great first snakes? Help a brotha out.

My cousin had a Ball Python (recently died) but I thought it was very awesome, snakes are just so interesting.  Also, watching them eat live rodents is crazy. I say deal, not a bad price.

Eh. Baby pythons here go around $15. It sounds like a really good deal though since it's full grown and comes with a cage and heating pad.


It might be a bitch to constantly buy food for it, though. Live rodents aren't cheap. Some ball pythons only eat live rodents so make sure that you know its food preferences already.

i have 2 3 foot ball pythons. one is mine, and im snake sitting the other one.

petco overprices their snakes. ball pythons were 80 bucks there, and 35 at another pet store down the road. a nice sized tank is around 100 dollars. a pad is probably 15, plus stuff for the terrarium.

i actually got my snake for free. i was at a pet store looking for snakes and met an older hippy lady that was looking for a home for her ball python, so i took it.





you only have to feed them once every 2 weeks. the one i got was only fed one rat once a month. mice and only like 1.50, mice, maybe 3.

you can see the rat inside the middle of the snake in the second pic there. thats right after i got him, a few days after he ate. i actually have to feed him tomorrow.

ive never seen heating pads for 50 bucks... must have got bent over on that one...
