White people are so uppity. It's like America belongs to white people, and everyone else is just allowed to live here for now.

Theres two sides to freedom: First is doing what you want to do. Most people have that down to a science. The other is having the common decency, respect and tolerance to let other people do their thing. Many people fall way short of that.

You can't build a civilization on having people do any damn thing they want and have them at the same time have no tolerance for other peoples expression of their freedom. Thats not civilization, its the gluttonous barbarism of every man for himself.

I don't see a point in him using Spanish, and consider it rude to those who don't speak it. Still the moment he announced it the whole town hall started mooing like a barn of cows who haven't been milked all day.

I can see why that's embarrassing in aq country thats highly boastful of their love for freedom. Let the man speak, then find out the what and why.

English is definitely the offical language in the US

it's a 'de facto' official language, meaning it's not law per se but it's recognized as such

It's not a mandatory language, it's commonly taken though.

I took German instead.

A more appropriate term used in many, many other nations rather than "official language," which carries specific connotations, is "language of government," which is what we have in de facto effect here.

And what about all the Spanish-speakers who have lived here legally for generations

my sister in law and her sisters are 3rd generation americans from
mexico, their grand mother moved here many years ago, the thing I find
most interesting is that they all speak english and spanish fluently.
Leo and his children are also bilingual, all born in mexico, all moved
here 30 year ago and became citizens just as Victor and his family speak
better english than many white americans and have been speaking english
before coming to the US, they're all here for the duration, they're
americans, they're citizens that moved up from mexico and they conduct
their business in english. when I would eat with Leo or Victor everyone
spoke english because I was a guest in their homes, when they would come
to my home, I made sure to improve my spanish because they were my guests

so what you're saying is just outright bullshit, as a guest we may
extend the courtesy of speaking spanish but they cannot demand that
we cater to their whims, when I was in Iran I tried to speak farsi,
I've picked up a little arabic in saudi arabia, I've learned some
russian and bosanski all of which have even helped me back here, hell,
I can still read russian and bosanski fairly well even of I dont know
what the it means... when I go abroad I dont expect people to speak
english, I expect to learn a little of their language

Quote:
And it is not "retarded" to say that English is not the official language of the U.S., because it is not, officially.

unless of course there's a desire to become a citizen, it's apparent
those that dont wish to learn are not eager to become citizens, they're
eager to take the money and run and further burden the citizens

as I said though, in many states there is an official language as mandated by law
