Personally I don't see anything wrong w/ the audience. It's freedom of speech. Also, America has given all cultures a chance to express themselves and if no one believes that, then you're an idiot.

(Mexico/any fucking country below us) is America's downfall. Cheap labor and free healthcare for illegals=no jobs for us and eventually no money for healthcare because the spics used it all w/ us because we dont have jobs.

Town hall meeting isn't a government function.  That should be clear.

Function here refers to government powers described under Arizona law.

leased/funded with tax dollars for the public to meet and inquire about
upcoming policy and legislation, often times these events are hosted on
publicly held properties like courthouses or state/county auditoriums

I don't have a problem with anybody speaking Spanish as long as they are proficient in English as well. If any of you have ever worked at a job where you must deal with customers on the phone and in person, then you would understand where I'm coming from. I deal with too many people that don't speak a lick of English, and it is very frustrating/annoying.

I wouldn't take a trip or move to a foreign country and expect everyone to speak my language. Why do immigrants?

You seem to be using this definition:

whereas under the law, it has this definition

a.  Assigned duty or activity.
b. A specific occupation or role


As holding a town hall meeting is not a prescribed role under Arizona law, it is not a function in the sense that it is assigned to them as something they have explicit power to do.

The congressman can implicitly hold gatherings in government buildings, but as this is not a prescribed power, the law does not apply.

no one stops people from speaking spanish at home or with friends,
etc... in fact if you dont speak a word of english I'm fine with
that as long as you're not trying to influence the policy making
since citizenship requirements dictate that you speak english unless of
course you meet the 2 exemptions, one is having lived here 15/20 years
AND over the age of 55/50 (certainly you should be functional in english
after 15 years) or you have a disability which prevents it

imagine being disqualified or terminated from a position for not being
bilingual as has happened to a few folks in oregon, as opposed to making
it a requirement for certain public sector employees to speak english in
order to communicate with the public they made a requirement for some of
the employees to be bilingual in order to communicate with the
non-english speaking employees in these public sector jobs

the american culture and become citizens, it's typically the illegal aliens

It was just plain rude of him to want to ask it in spanish when 99% of the people there only speak english. I don't see how english isn't the official language. It pisses me off that everything has to be in spanish these days as well as english.

In my opinion it should not be like that.  It is only a matter of time before this nation has to face the reality that a huge percentage of its citizenry would prefer to use a different language.  Many governments use more than one language.
