my life feels pretty normal but my friends and my family are always telling me what "normal" people do and how "normal" people respond to things. They aren't saying it to be dicks, I think I'm just abnormal. these "normal" folks seem pretty fucking crazy to me.

I think the concept of normal comes from the human tendency to have a very simplistic view of life.  Its easy to give anything in life very simple boundaries, usually determined by there functional uses in day to day life.

Some will see a chair and its just a chair. Purely defined by the use it has to them. But the chair is actually something so insanely complex that you would have to study for years at university to understand its chemical make up and how it interacts in physical reality. Even then the understanding you reach would be at most the current human understanding of reality which is probably limited in itself.


People apply this same way of thought to people and life itself. That's where the idea of normal comes from. Basically applying simplistic boundaries to highly complex concepts.

of course, the "normal" people's view of a "normal life", is fucking lame...my view of a "normal life" is the life that LIFE wants me to live, not what "normal" people want me to live

Good post. I agree completely. "Normal" is life broken down into a much simpler view. Who do you know that is normal? Some people seem normal at first, but get to know anyone and you will find they are a little strange. Its those who do not know they are a little weird who are the crazy ones. I have two friends, one wants to be crazy, but one really is crazy.

Why be normal? I do cut my hair to fit in a certain work environment.I want certain things in life and that is what I have to do(conform to a norm).I do talk about things like movies and stories in the news/newspaper,local events,music,and concerts I have been to.This is to get along with the people that I am surrounded by on a daily basis.I keep the conversations light for the sake of not making too many waves(conform to a norm).There is an idea of what mainstream society considers "normal",and I abide by that rule(s) when I am in a mainstream society situation.When I am in a situation/place/show/bar/event/etc...that mainstream society would not consider to be "normal" I feel more at ease,most of the time.There are constraints that society puts upon people through the use of media,news,public officials,teachers,law officers,etc;and there are people that put these constraints on the kids they raise.They have also been taught what is "normal" when raising children.

I long for the day when there is a cognitive shift to better ways of thinking.I do not know how to say this exactly.I need more intelligence around me.Intelligent people are not preoccupied with the mundane emotions of the intellectually challenged.I try to surround myself with very intelligent and free thinking people,mature in thought,beyond simplistic views of what most people think matters.There are very few I must admit.

It seems like the people with the least intelligence,are the ones that have a mob mentality when they see something they do not understand.Then they get frustrated when confronted with trying to relate to it,and they can not.It is only a matter of time until they wish to get rid of,or destroy the thing that frustrates them.Some people just have so much in them,and then they shut off.The "fox and the grapes" syndrome.It is just beyond some people to try hard enough to at least understand that they do not understand,and it is ok.(Does that make sense?)

I like to go beyond the "normal" ways of thinking,push boundaries,and discover new ways of thinking and being.It is very difficult to do this while living in a society that does not want to go beyond the comfort zone(s) of being "normal." I constantly get told that I am "weird" by perfect strangers,this compels me to try and evoke this reaction.I get told this even when I do not try.What is "weird"? (not normal?):confused:

I really can not find the words to accurately describe what message I am trying to convey here,this is a knee-jerk reaction to the question,and I am doing my best to relay the thoughts as they materialize.I hope you people can glean something from what I am writing here.  :grin:
