The Tale Of A Dying Old Man
    #11034610 -

Yesterdays Adventure. I found a bunch of Boletes but 90%, if not more, were parasitized. Pennsylvania Finds.
The I.D.'s are my guess, so feel free to correct when needed.

The Demise:

Mycena luteopallens

A Late Polyporus squamosus

I wonder if it growing late has to do with the lightness of the cap?

Some healthy Coprinus silvaticus

This one was the King/Queen of the group^

Amanita multisquamosa

Infected Abortiporus biennis?

Very bad shot, it was under a log with terrible light conditions.

This has to be the tallest mushroom I've ever seen, I couldn't bring myself to harvest it for proper identification. Pluteus?

Habitat: When I originally uploaded, I thought I found this under conifers, but now looking at the picture I don't know, I might have found this in the hardwoods. I didn't take much documentation on this.

Those woods look a lot like where I go hiking. I also live in PA, but on the western side.

Thank you guys. I wanted this hunt to be more of an identification practice for me, not so much a photo op.

I'll try and get some nice fall shots of the leaves this year. My aunt used to beg for pictures of them, then she'd go and show everyone where she lives. (New Mexico)

Haha, that's probably why they look a lot alike. I'm also on the western side of Pennsylvania

You've probably been through this area if your a Hiker. The North County trail crosses though these woods. This is "Hell's Hollow". I think it's part of McConnell's Mill

That last picture, the polypore, might be Polyporus badius, they look like that when they first pop out of what they are growing on.

After following your suggestion and reading the MushroomExpert description, I feel like that just might be the right I.D. I was struck by this mushroom more than any other before. Even though it was missing a piece of the cap, it still felt like it had a majestic appearance to it. It towered over all the other fungus, and even over some of the small vegetation. It was pretty cool to read that it is the tallest of it's kind.

The lactarius sounds like a good start too, now just which species. Can't seem to find one that fits

Polyporus badius, it seems like that may very well be it. I'm going to check on it tomorrow to see how it has matured.

Thanks To All
