My First Grow

I finally got things underway to start growing my own shrooms. I'm growing psilocybe cubensis burma that I got from sporeworks.com. Last Monday, I sterilized my jars by slow boiling them for 90 minutes. inoculated my jars (Contained BRF/Verm/Water).

A week later, I'm seeing mycelium come in very thick on 3 of my jars.. I think. So far I'm not seeing any signs of contamination (which makes me happy because I'm not the most careful person in the world)



Two of my other jars tho have very small splots of mycelia. However, looking throughout the cake I see pale white things on the substrate like playdough being squeezes through a hair-maker thingy. Not sure if that is the mycelium spreading or what. Tried to get a close up picture of it but I got low light in here.



I made a fruiting box out of a cooler, cut a hole through the lid, put plexiglass on it and silicone glued it together. Made a drip shield, and put a hole in the bottom for FAE.



Had a lot of fun with this humidifier



Strapped a PVC cap on the top of it, bored a hole through the top, fed a vinyl tube through it. Then I messed around with it for an hour or so because it was cool as hell.





I got a humidifier hooked up to squirt into a (I call it a chamber box) which has 3 different chambers that are almost airtight, then that feeds into the top of the fruiting chamber.



I made a Drying box by using tuberware and puting wire mesh in the top part of it, and putting dehydrator stuff in the bottom.



I think I'm set, but the anticipation is really killing me over here. Any suggestions appreciated.

PS: I'm just joking.. I don't REAAALLY grow illegal mushrooms.

Wow you are really going all out.

It's really as simple and easy as building a shotgun chamber, but hey a little extra effort can't hurt.

Looks like you are really prepared though and taking this very seriously.

Might wanna get some finer mesh in your drying chamber for some of the smaller fruits. Oh, and remember to fan dry for at least 12 hours before putting into the chamber.

As for the fruiting chamber. Wow, thats complicated and fancy - something im not experienced with, so i don't really have any suggestions other than to say that maybe you should ALSO build a simple shotgun chamber so your not putting all your eggs in the same basket.

Oh and, i would get a hygrometer if your going to be using a humidifier. Cigar shops sell em for mad cheap. I trust perlite to keep the humidity up... as for technology, well that I don't trust as much to be honest.

1 more thing... are you doing cakes or casings?

if your doing cakes then the fact that light is only going to be getting through the top may be a problem.

I was going to do cakes, but I wanted to experiment with casings anyway, it's just I couldn't find much to read about it, everything I read about casings were very vague and full of acronyms and such.

If I understand correctly, I wait until the mycelium spreads throughout the jar completely, wait a week, crunch the cake into little pieces. Put BRF + Verm + water mix in the bottom of an aluminum bread pan thingy, put the broken cakes in the middle and then more BRF + verm + water mix on top of the broken cakes. I don't really know what to do after that.

when it comes time to dry, you want to fan dry most of the moisture out before putting it in with the damp-rid.  Cubes are 90%water, if you put them straight to the damp-rid it reach its mas absorption before they are dry.

okay. well your going to need to watch RRs videos and going to need to do more research on this website.

Verm alone is not optimal for casings. there is something called 50/50 mix which is peatmoss and verm, thats a lot better. Also some people use jiffy mix. Casings are best kept at 80%-90% humidity, so that set up with the humidifier is actually perfect.

Dude that is a bad ass setup and no doubt in my mind you will get some awesome pins sets off your cakes. Make sure up keep us posted as it progress's. I want to see how this turns out.:headbanger:

Sweet.. That's exactly what I needed :P a lazy video. I'll look over it before my mycelium gets all the way through the cake.

Alright, I got it. Not in the drying chamber until after they've fanned out 24 hours. Thanks for the tip.

verm will work fine for casing those and a casing shouldn't contain any nutrients. You want to leave the brf out of your casing mix. Just strait verm. Also a cheese grater is the best for braking up your cakes, it will keep your myc growing evenly through your casing. You want to fruit them a lil sooner with a casing you dont want it the hole way through it. If you let it go the hole way through then fruit. You risk the chance of getting overlay . Which is not good. Late casing is also something you might want to do a search on. its really simple i took 4 brf mixed em with h-poo lined the bottom of the tray with a little verm . dumped the mix in. added a little verm layer on top. placed the lid on. let it sit under a towel to keep it dark then




probably not optimum but im surprised how easy and near fool proof it is .i dont think u can mess up too bad. i was going to do a 1/3 ratio but i said fuck it and just mixed the 4 cakes some poo i boiled in a pillowcase. as u can see i didnt follow all the rules/methods/guides and i still have pins

One of my jars got contaminated I think. Orange rocky-texture stuff mixed in there. Wasn't there before. I seperated it from the others. Looking for clarification that it's contam.





My mycelium weeps.

In good news, the other jars are colonizing quicker than before.

Well, I seperated it from the others. But the jar shook a magic eight ball and it said "Outlook not so good". So I guess i'll toss the jar now. Sadness. Thanks anyway guys. This forum is great.
