I find this very disturbing.

I can't beleive what I'm reading...

"The deer population in Mumford Cove was reduced from about 77 deer per square mile to about 10 deer per square mile (4 deer per square kilometer) after 2 years of controlled hunting. After the initial reduction the deer population was maintained at low levels. Reducing deer densities to 10 deer per square mile was adequate to reduce by more than 90% the risk of humans contracting Lyme disease in Mumford Cove."

WE humans, reduce the amount of a certain animal so that we can be safe about a certain disease? Wtf? Our selfishness (of course not everyone is selfish) will destroy us.

BTW I'm high so i might be interpreting this differently :grin: and don't ask me how I got to that sentence haha

Yeah considering we have a Lyme vaccination now...  :rolleyes:  I say lay off the deer for a while, and hunt something else that's excess in the woods. :lol:  Hopefully there'll still be some deer left when I go on my first hunting trip, whenever that is..

if the herd isnt thinned by predators/humans than eventually they will all die from disease. non-hunters dont understand this for some reason. if theres no bear, wolves or whatever to kill them and they become overpopulated then disease breaks out and will eventually wipe out damn near all of them.

not to mention theres nothing wrong with killing some fuckn deer to help save HUMAN lives. check out the automobile collisions caused by deer stats. my friend is pararlyzed because he hit a deer!

The deer are fucking THICK around here though

If they were meant to die then that's what has to happen. We were never meant to control anything... we are a part of this planet just like any other animal or living thing. We should all just go with the flow but unfortunately that will never happen.

You don't accept the fact that we
have taken away the deers natural predators

We have an obligation to try and help control them now
otherwise they would become much weaker and become disease ridden

Deer are so numerous, I'd assume most of them that are killed are used as food as well but I'm only guessing.
there's plenty of way worse things humans do, maybe that's why I don't think this seems bad at all.

Why are we not allowed to kill? We are animals, just like the rest. Should we try to stop lions from killing gazelle? Should we try to stop spiders from killing moths? Why should we be any different?

Isn't this world just ours for the taking? If we overpopulate and ravage the Earth, and seal our fates, isn't that just going with the flow? Aren't we just a virus on this planet? I don't remember being born with a manual to tell me what I was suppose to do. When our time comes, and we leave behind a toxic wasteland and ruined cities, and countless extinct species due to our exploits, then the world will heal itself and start anew. Earth abides, man.

I'm not just talking about the deer situation. You just pointed out another human error in "WE have taken away the deers natural predators" and now because of that they have to do this. It was probably a good idea to control them now that we've taken away their predators but we would have never had to do any of this if we didn't kill their predators.

yeah used to hear stories of people hitting deer all the time.. my friend totaled his mustang on a deer.

Controlling their population now that we've removed wolves from most areas is very necessary. Otherwise they overpopulate and out-compete other native species.

That would probably help, and ideally it would be the best (most natural solution). Unfortunately you've got soccer moms protecting their kids and shit. It would never happen in any relatively densely populated area.

So what are we "meant" to do? You seem to have some natural destiny worked out in your head. We evolved better and faster, we are top dog, get over it. What "flow" are you talking about? Why do you perceive humans (a mammal, BTW) killing other animals as unnatural?

I'd rather have those dear shot and eaten than flying through my windshield at 50MPH. Ever hit a deer with your car on a dark highway going 70+?
