god i love/hate math. its so facinating, and it captivates me, but all the kids in school kick my ass at it due to having a decade on me, and actually being taught WELL during that decade they have on me.

which is why i changed majors, again.

I used to be great in math up until calculus.  The theory is interesting as hell and I can follow it up until it comes to physically working it out.  I blew Chemistry away, I could write out reactions like it was my job but then I got to physics and bombed big time.  Physics theory fascinates the hell out of me but the math ruined it.  Doing a physics problem is like solving an algabraeic equation without any variables given.  If I'm provided A, I can find B and C no problem but physics is like find A, B, C, then also find the square root of D and subtract the meaning of life.

ahhahahaahha ya physics is fucking pro
calc isnt that hard its not much diff from algebra it just needs to be taught right
with calc its like a big circle everything is related to each other and they tell u more information about each other from knowing more and more its nuts

Yeah it's still good to learn even if you'll never use it.  I figured I'd be stuck in school against my will anyway, might as well excel..   I'm filled with so much useless knowledge anyway, I hope I'll be on some gameshow some day and rake it in.  The best part about math is when it clicks.  I'd be struggling on a problem for a week but when I finally understood the workings to the answer it was like a bomb of understanding just exploded in my head. :awesome:

I can remember being so entangled in calculus my brain hurt.  I'd be thinking in math rather than english, and it was kinda cool when it worked out.   I can remember being high in school for the first time my senior year.  I argued with the teacher for about 20 minutes and insisted my answer was right and everyone was laughing at me.   That was totally not my thing either, they must've known something was up.  My teacher had the greatest ass in the school though.  She wasn't much of a looker but damn she'd wear these skirts that would hug her ass so tight you could make out eat cheek and the asscrack of perfect width right now the middle....mmmm :drooling:

The concepts "instantaneous" and "rate of change" conflict each other.
It's impossible for something to change if we disregard everything except the instant... That's why division by 0 is paradoxal.

Sometimes I ask myself why I understand these kind of things yet I'm unable to figure out what 7 + 5 is without a calculator...

And thats why calculus is so powerful.  It can cope with this apparent paradox without dividing by zero.

Yeah by making imaginary numbers.  I remember LOL'ing when we were first introduced to it.  I'm like, "Lemme get this straight.  My grades this semester are at the mercy of imaginary numbers?!"

Calculus was invented before imaginary numbers became prevalent (I think they were around at that time, just not very developed).  Basic calculus that freshmen take doesnt really deal with imaginary numbers, but you can do complex calculus.  Its only necessary for real technical applications (science, engineering and mathematics).

My Brother just got his masters in Mathematics.  Math was his minor when he got his masters in engineering so now he has two masters degrees and continues to go to school..

Funny thing though..  He looks more like a washed up old TV wrestler than a brain, being 6'6" and built like an ox with a scruffy beard and 5 kids.

One thing I always remind him of is that mathematics ain't got shit on trial and error.

We could still be where we are today, it would have just taken lots more failure.

It's so interesting how they actually have a useful application in math though.  They make the math work and it's not like they're just BSing their way through previously unsolvable equations by making up numbers that work, they have their own rules of use and they have a place in mathematics (if that makes any sense).  It's been almost a decade since I've had to deal with that shit lol I'm a little rusty.
