Do moderate sized retail stores usually work like this?
    #10888798 -

So my fiancee put in her two weeks a little while ago.

In the meantime, two of the top sales guys who have been there for over 5 years got fired for attendance issues they had 4-4.5 years ago.

Now there are 6 other people (that she knows of) putting in his or her notice.

Sounds like a housecleaning... but moreso voluntary?

When the rest give their notice on Friday I'm sure there are going to be more people leaving.

I imagine they're going to just hire a shitload of people and hold the carrot on a stick in front of them to try and get back to their old figures. I've never seen/heard of mass quittings like this.

Coercion by making an uncomfortable work environment so they don't have to fire you?

I have seen companies do strange things
not really retail (didn't work there long)

but in the factories, they treat the employees like shit
then piss and moan because they have such a high turn over

:hulk:

Not just retail stores, but a lot of companies actually do this...This just happened at the company my girl works at....Ann Ferriday. A  mistake went down in the patternmaking process, and they blamed it on a woman who has worked there for 5 years but has made a lot of mistakes in her career-except this time it wasn't her fault. But the owner of the company made it seem like it was her fault and pushed the woman to her brink so she would quit, therefore unable to sue, at least psychologically.

Is this retail store in a right to work state?

That's what I was thinking in the beginning, but they had already let go of over half a dozen managers -- either take the reduced pay and demotion, or take unemployment. They all took unemployment because it paid more than the bad pay they were offering.

I told my fiancee to check with the Department of Labor because almost everyone who is giving notice is being subject to "workplace bullying" which is now illegal in my state.

My current employer pulls this shit ALL the time! They have at least one write up for EVERY employee so that when lay-off time comes at christmas every year, they don't have to lay off anybody.

Apparently 4 other people are straight up quitting at the end of today. I guess they banded together.

This store is losing 1/3+ of their workforce in the next few weeks. :wtf:

Is the store a bad apple or what?

Hopefully, the employer has a real hard think about why so many of its employees are leaving the company. They might consider changing their ways and giving the current/new employees the respect they rightfully deserve.

.. I really do doubt it though!

I think it was 3 years ago or so when I was at a retail company. We (apparently) got hired to help get managers fired so a new crew could come in and save the "red store". It was degrading. I felt inhuman. I was coerced to file complaints against them with the threat of losing my job if I didn't report it.

I can understand that from a business prospective - especially since they were stealing from the tills and "accidentally" moved the receiving camera with a ladder - but nothing fishy is going on at this place. I mean, I guess something is, but people are just saying "fuck it".

One girl has a kid and her husband works per diem and she dropped her shit, threw her work shirt off, and walked out in her bra. Classy, I know, but a very bold statement. Too bad I wasn't there because she's smokin.  :fairy:

I know this should really be of no concern to me, as my fiancee is doing OK and has a better job already, but it's just not adding up at all. :goinsane:
