Cities Of Light

"It's hard to know for sure what the GDP of poorer countries is, because their economic statistics are often missing or unreliable.

Researchers from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, think they have come up with a solution by measuring how much light a country shines out at night, as seen by from orbit.

In these pictures see how the light power of different regions compares."

It is kind of interesting how there is almost a "grid" pattern in the mid-western US, North Korea is entirely dark, and you can tell where the himalayas are...

Nice pics

Well, of course poor areas will be darker. Light costs $$. There are better off countries like Canada that just have a ton of open space. I'm surprised NK is dark though, for some reason

^NK has very poor infrastructure, and frequently suffers from blackouts...

The spot of light you see there is probably where Kim Jong Il lives.

I like how the northern-west coast of North America has the least lights

Australia is just a myth invented by the covetous jew to keep the world's banking systems in check.

There is a curfew at 10pm where all the lights are turned off.

Saw a satellite photo in National Geographic one time. There was a sharp line between the South and North. North Korea was nothing but black.

Curfew at 10? That sounds ripe for a US invasion...:strokebeard3:

Kind of off topic, but this photograph always strikes me. It shows the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which share an island. Haiti is very poor, and the people strip all forests for firewood, while the Dominicans don't. The result is unchecked deforestation all the way to the border.
