Don't you hate when you wanna just chill, smoke weed, and watch some tv before bed and as soon as you get nice and ripped your satellite signal goes out from the tiniest amount of rain or snow? That shit makes me so fucking mad sometimes that I wanna just smash my tv with a hammer.

Don't they sell some kind of shield for that shit? Seems kind of primitive that the weather determines how good your reception is...I mean shit when TV first came out that wasn't even an issue .

I used to have that problem, but then, I got up on the roof one day and installed a motorized adjuster to the dish bar. No more missed programs for me.

That's because it's a much lower frequency than the satelite microwaves. It's gotta go all the way from space to your dish. Rain and clouds will dissipate the beam. You can't shield it, the only cure would be to get a wire going from your dish to the satellite.
Terrestrial television (that operates in the hundreds of megahertz range) is affected by rain and clouds, but because it's much more tolerant of it than satellite, it's not noticeable really. Digital satellite and digital telly is much like the nicam stero that was new and shiny so many years ago. Either it works, or it doesn't, with no fuzziness in-between.

Are you sure it's pointed correctly?
If the dish is off by even a little, you will still get signal in fair weather but nothing in rain/snow.
Do you know how to check the signal strength on your dish? Check it in good weather and poor weather. It should be in the 80's or 90's in good weather, and no lower than 60% in all but the shittiest weather. Anything lower and your not pointed right.

Oooohhh I thought it was the snow, rain, or wind hitting the dish that did it. I didn't realize passing though the clouds and everything is what affected it.

Agreed, i used to install for DTV, its not the sat, its whoever installed it. I have almost never lost signal. And the few times i had, it was freaking pouring out. Almost to the point that you want to turn the electronics off so nothing gets fried. Mind you I live in Central Fl, so we get some heavy rain, and mean lightning.
But sat internet is crap. Dont get it, expensive, limited useage, and 1-5 sec lag/delay.
