Possible bruising? PICTURE please HELP

I have been reading too many different things about bruising and what it could be from. I have provided a picture in hopes that someone could please explain to me if it is from: too much misting, not enough misting, or from handling. (Or maybe contam?)

Please help

well not a good pic but it does look like bruising. it looks like a cake, correct. was it dunked or has any mushies been picked off it lately.it doesnt look like it was from handling unless you were juggling with it or something. looks like it is drying out which causes it to bruise. either not dunked or you have just harvested and it drained moisture from your cake

It's definitely not from handling. Looks like it's from under-misting, but the pic is too blurry to tell much other than that it's bruised.

It is a cake and I dunked it prior to putting it in the fruiting chamber. They have not yet been harvested. I was afraid my misting was bruising it. Should I actually mist more and not be afraid of accidentally aborting any pins? What would be the appropriate way of going about getting them more water?

Scroll over, it is just a big picture. To the right, if you scroll over, you can see a larger bruised area.

That is a nice pic - very clear, with obvious bruising. As far as what it's from, only the cake shall know. But I see several knots that will be turning into pins soon, so keep it very humid in there.

for any future readers, I think my cakes were saturated with water. Then when it was soaking wet you could easily see any bruising that had been done under the surface. I am sure misting played its part in aborting some pins.


I thought they were dry so I sprayed them a lot, and they only started to look worse. So now I have been fanning frequently each hour. They are getting better. Becoming more white and not so sopping wet looking.

In my experience, pins won't abort from misting. Only from standing water, use a really fine mist and fan hard for 30 seconds afterward.

Looks OK to me,if ya wanna be safe keep it from the others for a few days and see if its a contamination but it doesn't look like one from where I sit

You should never mist mycelium directly.  That is why it bruised.  If you roll in vermiculite and DEC, then you can mist a bit.  Dunking a cake gives it the moisture it needs generally.  Just leave it alone and it will do its thing.
