I still dont think Lesnar's proven much by beating Couture and Mir.

This wasn't the first time Mir had been ground and pounded to submission, Pe De Pano, Brandon Vera were both able to do this.

And Randy Couture is the best stylistic mathcup possible to cater for Brock Lesnar....a smaller, weaker, older wrestler.

Lesnar has yet to fight a really dangerously slick subission fighter, i'd love to see him in there trying to ground and pound Fabricio Werdum.

And Lesnars also never been cracked before, or even been threatened to get hit by any decently strong puncher.

I think the winner of Shane Carwin v. Cain Velasquez is going to beat  Brock...

Carwin especially  is a nightmare match up for Brock.  He is a fucking beast who can knock you out as fast as submit you, and he is as big as Brock.  Ask  Gabriel Gonzaga, Neil Wain, and  Christian Wellisch if Carwin can hit.  Also this is a guy who fights out of Jackson's Submission Fighting, and trains along side some great fighter including GSP.  I think he will fucking dominate Brock..  :rotfl:

Same story for Cain Velasquez.. Not as big as Brock height wise, but has knocked out almost everybody he has fought.  Great wrestling background to counter Brock.. Also he is coming out of American Kickboxing Academy.  You got allot of talent in that camp as well including Cung Le, and Josh Thomson .

Carwin Vs Velasquez i believe is going to yield the next UFC Heavyweight champion before 2010 if the fight is signed before hand.

While I like Cain, and i think his ground and pound is pretty dynamic,

he still has alot of polishing to do, and his standup technique needs alot of refining.

I agree about Shane Carwin.....he's got alot of the tools to succeed against alot of strong fighters.

I don't really see him doing anything different than anybody else who's put into the situation of having to treat fighters as assets.  He has to de-humanize every fighter essentially to do his job right, hence why him putting Liddell into retirement seems very out of character since he can still milk a huge paycheck out of him.

Do I like it?  No.  Do I think it's the reason the UFC has succeeded where others have failed? Probably.

In a business sense fighters are assets, plain and simple.  Assets don't have desires, don't have concerns, and don't choose their own path.

No, the UFC was successfull DESPITE the way they had treated fighters.

I know you didn't follow MMA back then, but then main reason the UFC was on the verge of bankruptcy for so long was because the depletion of talent in almost all of their weight classes.  They had to cancel and rearrange several ppvs due to this, and the inability to replace fighters dropping out due to injuries.

You weren't around when they had to cancel the lightweight and middleweight belts, and when the heavyweight division was near-obsolete.

the UFC succeeded because of the reality show.  Pure and simple.  And Dana white wasn't the man responsible for that.  He just acts like he is.

I'll give u a bit of a history lesson.

When Jens Pulver relinquished his lightweight belt, he was considered t he top lightweight in the world, bare none.  He stated issues with Dana White and his own personal dissatisfaction with fighter treatment by the front office as his reasons for leaving.  His only reason for seeking outside competition was because other organizations were willing to pay him more.

He was pissed because there were heavyweight fighters getting paid more than him, who didnt even hold a title belt.  Zuffa used to not even give a shit about the lighter weight classes, and they got paid like crap.

There was no lightweight champion, no official title holder to the belt, for the next four years.

When Murilo Bustamante left the UFC as their middleweight champion, he was considered by many to be the p4p king at the time.  Once again, he moved to Pride because of the fighter treatment, better pay, and basically, avoiding the douche bag known as Dana White.

And AGAIN, because of the way fighters had been treated, and the general dissatisfaction with the organizations president,  there would not be a Middleweight title or even a title fight, till Terrell fought Tanner another 3 years later.

The same ordeal went on with so many other great fighters.  BJ Penn, Matt Lindland, Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz just to name some others.

It's kind of sad when people give Dana White credit for the expansion of the sport.  It just shows that he's been successfull at pursuading people to believe that he hasn't been one of the biggest burdens in the sport.

The slump in 2001-2003 was more political than anything.  They were banned from TV and PPV, how do you run a company that can't market it's product?

I know what you're saying, I just don't agree with you.  Even though you think I wasn't paying attention to fights back then, I was, I just stopped paying attention to the UFC because they stopped promoting and being relevant.

You're basically saying Pride did a better job than the UFC with everything.... yet where are they now?  You can't even say White and the Fertita's don't run the UFC as a business successfully, they're far and above the best run fight business in the world!

No, the UFC is successfull because they hit the maintstream in the wealthiest market country in the world.  Not because of some sort of sly and brilliant business practices ran by the Fertittas.  And NOT because they treat their fighters like shit.  Which they've done for a very long time.

They came out with a great Reality Show, something Americans love, and it brought them into the mainstream.

Pride unfortunately went down cuz of poor decisions in business.

But they did treat their fighters far better.  Why else do you think for the longest time, UFC fighters were moving out of the league once they had their belt?

I'm surprised you've never really known much about the long history of fighters being so disgruntled and having personal issues with Dana White.  Because if u did u'd sort of be fed up as much as others who've seen it going on for so long.

And no, fighters should not have to fight their own friends if they dont want to.

First of all, when you're pitting two long time training partners against each other, you take away one of the most crucial elements of what makes both fighters superior to begin with.

In the long run, you're only going to be as good as your training partners push u to be.

Secondly, if two REALLY CLOSE friends have to fight each other, chances are, ur not going to even see a genuinely competitive match to begin with.

I'm surprised people haven't even learned by now by already watching the horrendous results in the past when friends or close training partners have had to fight each other....

People have such short term memory when it comes to this sport.

and how about Dana Whites infamous Media Ban

i'm sure that sly business decision did wonders in aiding the growth of MMA, right?

He'd ban all online media outlets unless basically he had provision over their articles.

Which is why you had idiots like Michael DiSanto saying Tim Sylvia was always the #1 Ranked heavyweight worldwide.  Posting an article about how he would beat Nogueira, Fedor and Cro Cop.

I don't know why helping forumulate a reality show isn't considered a wise business decision?

Sure they make some fuckin odd choices at times but if thats all they did they wouldn't have a company.

Dumb luck couldn't have taken them this far.

The 'UFC' has made themselves bigger then everyone of their fighters, just like the WWF.

UFC packages and presents MMA in a manner that I find entertaining. As a casual fan I want it to be easy to digest and something that's going to amuse me after a few beers and a bowl. For me, all these side concerns are too complicated. I enjoy watching quality fights and the fights on their programs seem really high quality to me, bloody and rough as hell with great athletes. What's wrong with that?  Where do you think the sport would be wihout UFC? Probably not in my living room.

That's such a false assumption.  You weren't around to see the toll it took on the organization when their champions got up and left year after year.

Like I was saying to Jadian, every time a #1 ranked guy or champion would ascend in the UFC, and got up and left,  it created a void in those weight classes for years.

People cant even imagine the toll it would've taken, had Randy Couture left the UFC after taking the HW belt.  Which is exactly what he tried to do.  Which is exactly what so many fighters have done or tried to do in the past, and will continue to do in the future.

As long as Dana White treats fighters like shit, the ufc will never be able to truely unify the mma market.

and the UFC will continue to be a carrousell of talent, rather than an anchor to all the top fighters in the world.

Most people just forget about various fighters.  They don't even notice when a top ranked guy is no longer fighting in the organization.

You're talking about catering to 3-4 fighters and forgetting about the rest of them.  We're arguing two different sides of something here, actually you aren't even arguing anything just being arrogant and repeating points that aren't really related to what I'm saying anyway.

I fight.  Do I agree with how promoters treat fighters? No.

Would I say forget any other fight promotions to sign with the UFC?  Yup, and it's not because they'll treat me better.  So then if I win 5 fights in a row, get my title shot, and win it, I deserve to make all my own demands and rewrite my own contracts?  Sure in an ideal world, not in a fucking business.

Randy Couture is my favorite fighter in the world, and a great guy in general.  Do I think Dana White should have just given in to all his demands just because he'd been with the company for 7 years and had won a few belts? FUCK NO.  The guy is making half a million per fight, he can get over the licensing rights to his image and the fact that he fights who his boss wants him to.  Is Jim Miller, or Mike Swick, or Chael Sonnen going to be able to start demanding things they never got before?

The fact is the UFC rewards winning and rewards good performances more than any other organization, they give out huge bonuses every fight card (most of the time larger than the checks the guy gets for fighting+his win bonus), and there's hundreds of fighters trying to get into the UFC.  I think they're doing ok with how they treat their fighters regardless of the fact that they don't cater to every whim of their champions.

It's a business, bottom line. And they do it well, or over half of the people who "left" for various disputed reasons wouldn't have come back.  Those guys were all very talented and very smart fighters outside of the ring, they could have found other work if they wanted.

It's not "just 3-4 fighters",  it's been going on for a very very long time.

And it's NOT JUST the fighters who reach the top and then voice their dissatisfaction with Zuffa and especailly Dana and get up and leave.  Don't you ever wonder what happened to guys like Andrei Arlovski or other fighters who left the octagon on a win streak?

Randy couture's personal issues with Dana was just an example of many that i already pointed out to you.  His policies regarding the no contest clause was not the issue.  How he went about dealing with Randy Couture and the proceeding lawsuits.  What he said in the media about Randy, etc.

It's not even a matter of "catering to every whim".  It's a matter of talking down to your fighters in front of news media, degrading your fighters over announcers, holding personal grudges with numerous fighters, media outlets, and promoters, enforcing traininger regimens to fighters you're wagering on, the examples are endless.

Im glad the ufc is finally paying their fighters well.  Yes, good for them.  You're completely dismissing just the history of how long this came to be, and even now many fighters are still underpaid, especially short contract fighters, and those in the lighter weight classes.

But as long as they keep showing everyone how much the big stars are getting paid, i'm sure it makes people more comfortable in assuming everyone else gets paid a supportable income.  Especially on an exclusive-competition contract, right?

Give me a break.

My larger issue with his treatment of fighters is how he deals with younger, newer fighters who don't make enough to cover their hospital visit.  He shouldn't be trying to cater to each fighters needs but he should be paying them all more and more equally.  (Lesnar has made more in one fight than the payroll of an entire UFN event, and probably some lower-quality UFC PPV's)

I'm dismissing younger fighters that don't get paid well?  No, I'm pissed off at the guys who make a killing while these other guys put 2 months and a lot of sweat and blood into a fight just the same and get jack shit.  I have a promoter here in Alaska trying to get me to fight for free.  FOR FREE.  The fuck?

There's no fighter's union, or anything of that sort.  There's no fighter-based promotions on a grander scale, etc. etc.

You're at the mercy of the management, and who they decide to pick up, and who they decide to drop.

They live pay check by pay check, and one loss can ruin a career.
