What a bitch Joey is. 6 fucking weeks and you want to cry about it? If for no other reason than his best friend asked him to stay he should have.
No one in the house has looked that impressive yet. I couldn't believe that guy on Hughes's (Billy?) team tapped from that guillotine tonight.
I hung out with one of the guys that's on there, Ritchie Hightower (I think that's his last name), the one with the crazy hair on Serra's team. One of my best friends is really good friends with Ricco Rodriguez and Ritchie is friends with him.

I've gone out with him a few times and he was actually ok from what I saw. He does seem to attract trouble though without really doing anything.

Did anyone who watched this fight (War Machine & Tommy Speer) catch that Speer tapped?
I saw it and then heard one of the guys say with definite relief in his voice "Oh, he tapped." I said it to my girlfriend and she said she thought he was just moving his hand fast trying to get a better position. So, luckily we have Tivo and I rewound it.
He definitely tapped and someone says "He tapped." But right as he does it, War machine changed positions and I guess Tommy had second thoughts. The ref never called it. After I replayed it she agreed it was pretty clear that he had tapped.
Did anyone else catch it?

Yeah it seems pretty obvious that he should win. This season has to be the most inexperienced (or untalented) cast yet.

I'm a blue belt under Daniel Gracie at Renzos in manhattan and I was at the GQ tourney this past weekend in NJ, coaching one of my training partners and we literally ran into Joey Scarola...well actually my friend who was competing actually turned to point to one of the mats to show his mother where he would be later and ended up smacking Scarola right in the mouth by accident! It was hilarious! We all laughed about it and we tried to take a picture with him only to find that our batteries were dead in the camera. I sat and talked with him for about 10 minutes as he coached one of his guys in an advanced bracket of the tourney. Hes really a nice guy, him and mac danzig are pretty good friends now (according to him). I asked him if he had any plans to fight in the future and he said hes really just concentrating on getting his new school up to speed along with his new students, he told me to check out his new website www.scarolabjj.com (its pretty bare bones). He invited my friend and I (who is also one of daniels students) to come up to long island and train with him and check out his school. Like I said hes a cool guy, just not cut out for reality TV...he is the 1st BB under Matt and Nicky Serra and we all know Matt is the 1st BB under Renzo here in the US. So his jiu-jitsu has got to be on point...I'll be sure to let ya guys know what hes really got once we roll...

I agree...Tommy is a beast, definately not someone I want in my guard...I caught Renzo last night after taking the purple belt class at his place in NYC...he really is one of the most approachable people you've ever met... [image]http:// [/image] He told me that he will be fighting Frank Shamrock again. He said that they are allowing him to dictate "when", he told me he wants to do it in June and it will be in Elite XC not the IFL.

How he escaped that arm bar is beyond me.
I really do think the other guy would have won if he hadn't been sick though.

That armbar was there, ben just needed to scoot his ass away from the cage a little more so tommy couldnt push off to defend it. The triangle was a nice transition as well, and I think ben would've had it if he wouldve scooped the leg and held it...at the very least the triangle could've been used as a sweep to gain dominant position. EVERYONE is looking for the triangle, EVERYONE is looking for the armbar. I like to "threaten" one, making your opponent think your committing to the submission so hes forced to defend as expected, if you set it up right you'll almost always get the reversal.

it's cool you can admit to this fault, i applaud that.
but gawd damn it's annoying when i'm watching it with people trying to explain how they should be getting into full gaurd and shit.
Trying to even apply what you remember in training is pretty tough when someone's punching your face.

I take into account that people are being or are at risk to being pummeled in the face at any moment, I've been in that position. I am just amazed when I see someone fighting at a professional level not know a simple defense to a submission or hold.
I mention this specifically because of TUF, that's where I'd see most of it, but you catch it every once in a while at the professional level.

it's hard for me to scorn fighters in those situations.
It would make you no better than Joe Rogan, a guy who criticizes fighters all the time yet has zero professional MMA experience.

You don't need pro experience to be able to point out flaws in technique.
It's not like I'm sitting at home watching football saying "Oh that guy sucks he totally should have made that catch"
Moreso what I'm doing is looking at someone that's in the same position I've been in over and over in practice, and seem absolutely clueless as to what to do. It makes me wonder if these guys are actually training from every position, and if not why the hell wouldn't they?
And I dig Eddie Bravo moreso for the fact that he's an avid pot activist than anything else, I think he's sort of a douche but the guy is funny.

Back to the topic of the armbar Tommy escaped from, that guy really must have been sick or Tommy is the fucking hulk because nobody should get out of that position
Now I'm just convinced it's because the other guy was having a really off night or just sucks. A single good elbow even from the bottom would have opened up a ridiculous cut, I don't think Tommy took more than 5 hits to the face the whole fight.

I agree, He took very little damage that fight... being sick can really screw you up. Also, Bens fighting style is JKD not BJJ, and serra only had a couple of weeks with these guys which is not nearly enfough time to improve the ground game.

All very true. I'm sick right now and I feel like I couldn't roll with a 13 year old girl.
I don't know much about the fighters in this season, I only start paying attention when it gets to the quarterfinals and we all know Danzig is going to win anyway.
That fight could have been ended so easily with just a few elbows from the bottom of something, that cut was begging to be opened (Although I do give a ton of credit for the MMA doctors for how good it actually did look come fight time)

Yeah it's amazing what those cut guys can do just between rounds. Give 'em a couple days and it's unbelievable how well they can get a cut looking.

I'm looking foward to the final fight, most likely between that australian dude(george?) and danzig.
It'll be a decent scrap. I absoulutely hate danzig. He's so hung up on the fact that he's "so experienced". He just comes off sounding like a tool.
He'll most likely win though. I'll still be rooting for george or whatever his name is.

It's true Danzig really is a dick, but he doesn't feel like the rest of the people there are really up to his level of competition, and I'm inclined to believe he's right.
He's just using this opportunity as PR since winners of these shows always at least get a lot of promotion.
Of course this attitude really could come back to bite him, he's a great fighter but that George guy really could catch him if he's not careful.

Tommy definately deserves a chance in the game - just think how bad he'll be when he actually has skills

He will be a force no doubt.
I actually know that guy Ritchie (through Rico). I mean, I only hung out with him a few times, but he seemed alright to me.
It wasn't just him that didn't want that fight though, all of them other than the guy who got it weren't down. At first I was shocked, why not take the fight on nothing other than the off chance you could knock him out. I understand that with a rib injury like Matt (?) had not wanting to fight since the risk of serious injury is more likely, but the other guys I thought should jump at the chance, especially in their situation.
After I thought about it some more though, I guess I see where they were coming from. To just have that sprung on you at last minutes notice has to be tough. Cutting weight like that is a huge strain on them, mentally and physically. Plus, I think fighting is a huge mental game. If you weren't mentally prepared to do it, and didn't believe you could win, you probably won't.
I'd like Jadian and those others who've been posting that do fight to chime in on what they think about taking a fight like that at the last minute.

I agree with all the what ifs and negitive aspects of taking a fight like that..............but, these guys signed up for that. They knew they were there to step up in case of an injury. Yeah cutting weight sucks - trust me I know all about that. But the fact is a fighter should be ready to go, especially when they know they could be called up at any time.
They were afraid - end of story.

Haven't watched this latest episode yet so I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to, it's 90% downloaded so I'll chime in after a bit when I figure out what you're asking.

You've really got to respect taking a fight on such short notice (3 days)... The game is half mental, half physical, if your not prepared, it will not be a good show and thats the bottom line. As far as cutting weight... it can suck the life out of you, depending on how much weight you cut and in what amount of time.
Also your body type comes into play big time with cutting weight.
If your one of those guys who carries a little extra weight with him with a little bit slower metabolism, then you wont be affected as much as say someone whos already pretty cut and on the slim side.
Personally the most I've ever cut is about 10lbs, and that was done over about a week and a half to two weeks for a Grapplers Quest BJJ Tourney in 2006.
It diddnt really affect me that much though since I did it over about a two week period, if I had cut that same amount of weight two or three days before, theres no doubt in my mind I would've had my ass handed to me...

I support Arroyo's decision not to fight with a rib injury against a guy like Danzig, that's just asking for a serious injury. Dana White is just proving himself to be more a douchebag every time I hear him speak.
In a situation like TUF I think you have to jump at the opportunity to put yourself back into competition if you've lost already. So if I was in there absolutely I'd want to take the chance if I wasn't hurt. If you wanna go hard you might as well go all the way.
No idea if I answered what you were asking.
Tommy impressed me with his stand up, he's got a lot of potential but I highly doubt the fight would have ended the same way were it not for the eye gouge. Not taking a win away from Tommy, I could see him still taking the fight but you could tell that George just couldn't see some of those shots coming.

I think all of those guys were sitting around 190. 20 lbs in 3 days would be ludicrous.

It would suck, but it's certainly doable. Those guys should be aware of their weight the entire time they're in that house. Sure if you lose and you think you're done fighting you won't be as strict, but you have to have in the back of your mind the chance is there for you to fight again and the stupidest thing to blow a chance on is a few pounds.

No, you pretty much confirmed exactly what I was thinking.
The only other thing I could add is that I also think being in that house for so long has also really affected all of those guys. I think that might be a factor that you, as a fighter, couldn't speak for. I used to watch it and every time a guy pussed out, I was screaming at him. But after so many seasons, and so many guys being affected the same way, it has to be a huge factor.

That's a big part of the mental game that fighters have to be 100% prepared for.
In my eyes my mental game is my strongest attribute in any situation or confrontation.
Sure it sucks you've been in that house with only dudes, getting beat on for a few weeks, and now you're asked to fight the best guy in the house on 3 days notice? That would fucking suck, but if you want to be a true UFC fighter you know that's what you have to do.

how do you think tommy felt having to make weight 3 weeks in a row with no breaks
he's a big guy so that would be a lot harder than cutting weight once like those other pansies
I would like to bet L_S a taco on this one - I'll take tommy since he picked danzig right off the bat.

Danzig will beat him. I'm convinced Danzig can sink a rear naked on anybody.
I just found out yesterday that a guy I was training with has a 10-2 professional record (Only losses to Danzig and Nam Phan) and he still makes less than 1000$ a fight. He should have done this show for sure. I could almost garuntee it would have ended up with him and Mac in the finals and that's a rematch I'd dig, because their first match was interesting. (Youtube Danzig vs Valdez)

It's too bad none of his wins are on Youtube, those are awesome. I can't compare him to anyone but BJ Penn, and for multiple reasons. First off, he's so naturally talented he doesn't think he needs to train as hard as everyone else and that could hurt him, and secondly he's as flexible as fucking gumby.
I dunno how he gets into or out of the things he does but it's effective what I can say. Guy deserves to be making a lot more per fight than the 750-800$ he's been getting. He's doing main events at little KOTC and small shows around New Mexico/Arizona. Another interesting fact is he's somehow related to Diego Sanchez
The Danzig fight was only his 3rd pro fight and it was in Mac's hometown too. Talk about throwing him to the dogs.

Can't say that the Danzig fight went any different then expected. Bet my buddy a buck that he'd win by rear naked in the first half of the first round, so I won me a dollar!

Wow.
That was the best UFC showing in I've seen in a while. The War Machine fight against Jared, was damn good. The Guida/Huerta fight was incredible. Seriously great fight. Guida is fucking relentless. I don't understand how it's humanly possible to keep a pace like that.
I even think my boy Ritchie did good even though he got knocked out. I definitely don't think he deserves the all the shit talking about him that he has.

yeah I won five bucks with the same bet myself. I called it way before the fight even.
ahh well, as much as I dislike his high and mighty attitude, I'm glad he's broken into the ufc. We'll see some good fights from him in the future.
I'd like to see his next fight against koscheck or something.

I see Danzig fighting Stevenson after Penn beats Stevenson in January. They might set him up with Florian too after hearing him talk about how he would fight him.
I really dig Guide and it sucks he got caught like that, but man Huerta can take a lot more punishment than I gave him credit for. Good fights.

hahaha
what's funny about TUF is that the winner of the season has been obvious ever since the first show.
Everyone knew diego sanchez would win. Everyone knew Joe Stevenson would win. Everyone know Michael Bisping would win, Matt Serra, etc etc.

I wouldn't have picked Rashad to win
Serra either actually, but I just plain didn't like him and think he's too small for welterweight.

Rashad and Forrest are the two exceptions.
Aside from that, the favorites have always won the competitions.
Stevenson, Sanchez, Bisping, Danzig, Diaz, all had far more extensive experience and impressive records than their competitors in their respective seasons.
