I have been attempting to acquire and grow a decent LionsMane for several months now.

Fabio sent me one that grew on agar like none I have seen.

Very fast where the other three I have worked with have been slow and almost invisible in their growth.

I made several agar plates of Fabio's culture.

From the plates I saved several slants and am attempting to create a LC to work from.

After taking my slant samples, I placed the agar plate aside.

The plate was created on 6/17 with samples taken a week later.

This is the plate on 7/25



and this is the plate today - 8/9





I can't wait to see if my LC works and then what an actual grow will produce.

I just made an LC from an aggressive Lions Mane on agar, hope to see good growth. I also did an Enoki LC, but it had sprouted off the agar just like that as well. That LC is growing very aggressively.

I made the LC using light malt - the LC is tan in color.

I added gypsum per Stamets book - this leaves a sediment at the bottom when not being mixed.

After I let the LC sit for an hour or two (after haveing the magnetic mixer work for a few minutes) I can see a cloudy light mass floating in the bottom 3/4 of the LC mixture.

I am assuming THAT is the mycelium layer.

I was thinking of taking a syringe sample of that layer and dropping it on to agar to see if it grows.

Is there another way to see if it is indeed mycelium?

That sure looks like my isolate.  I sent Fabio a culture a couple of years ago, so I'm assuming that's it.  He'll probably pop in to verify.  It's a great performer.

Is that corraloides or americanum, RR ?

I wonder because the growth on the one that Mrs. Rabbit is holding is so nicely branched, and the erinaceus I have seen are all globe shaped.

It's H erinaceus, just a very nice performing strain, isolated from spores.  I have a few other isolates as well as a few clones of H americanum, but that one is the best fruiter.  Tasty too.
