That couldnt be further from the truth.  Why are you trying to turn this into me being racist?  I interact with plenty of non-'La Raza' Hipanic Americans all the time, as friends and colleges.  What I do have a chip on my shoulder against is race based advocacy groups and violent racist gangs - each of which identify with the term "La Raza".

My problem is that you are trying to identify the organization known as "La Raza" with all the Hispanics who use the term.  It's very easy for white people like us to criticize identity politics, because we haven't been through what they have.  Solidarity is how you get places in this world.  If blacks didn't have the NAACP, they'd still be drinking out of separate fountains.

On the term thing ......people identify with what they think represents them..........birds of a feather flock together........you dont see black gangsters putting mozart stickers on thier cars....:shrug:

I personally have no information on the la razza ,I am just pointing out human nature to group into like catagories and choose things that represent what they believe.You dont see headbangers wearing boy george shirts.

Like things seem to go together.

I think that be where the confusion comes from.

The KKK and Neo-Nazis exist to keep other races down.  Groups like the NAACP exist to bring their race up.  It doesn't make sense for those at the top to have such a group, because they don't need it.  There are, however, groups like that for specific ethnicities within the white race, such as Irish, Italian, Jewish, etc.

I'm sure you've had your own individual struggles.  So have I.  But that's different from struggling as a group.  I may sometimes have trouble finding a job, but that's different from having trouble getting hired because of my race.  Just as I can't know what you've individually gone through, nor can you understand what they've been through as a people.

Reminds me of the first chapter of my critical thinking textbook.  When asked if single people should be punished for not marrying people say no by a large margin.  When asked if married people should get benefits for being married rather than single people say yes by a large margin.  But those are the exact same thing!

But is it not inherant that if you wish to bring yourself up ,you must put someone down....same with staying on top ,means keeping others down.Like a election ,someone strives to elevate themselves above the others in order to be chosen.


  Dont get me wrong I see what you are saying and it`s a valid point ,I also know the KKK neo nazi people are nuts and have the wrong idea and strive to keep a person down based on color,which is wrong.

Nope, Im not saying that.  Im saying advocating for a race is the same as not advocating for all other races.  I would prefer to advocate for the disadvantaged, regardless of their race.

I can understand the sentiment, but the disadvantaged are not unified enough group to raise themselves up, and each ethnic group faces its own unique set of challenges, as well as a shared experience that can't be fully appreciated from the outside.  I don't think that the Gay Rights movement, the Black Civil Rights movement, and the American Indian movement would be helped by lumping them together under the category of "disadvantaged."  I think that would just be self-defeating for all of them.
