the taboo against nudity is a byproduct of flawed thinking, just the same as obesity is. if people weren't so fucked up in the head, neither problem would exist.

I suppose.

But what exactly is flawed about the typical thinking of our pertaining society? Obesity isn't exactly caused by flawed thinking; rather, it is fueled by it. Truly, the inclination of obesity is nonetheless hereditary. Though, in retrospect, the individual DOES have the final say as to what goes in their body to be digested.

But I don't think the clinically obese have any flawed mentality... I'm sure they are aware of their obesity and the agents that cause it. I think it's more of a flawed psyche; food might be a temporary alleviation of a void/intro-emotional deficiency/extro-emotional deficiency.

They've got a flawed psyche but not a flawed mentality? What the fuck do you propose is the difference?

Obese people eat too much goddamned food. That is their problem. It is not any more complicated than that.
Some people are genetically predisposed towards storing fat more effectively than others, but that has nothing to do with becoming obese. If you eat twice as much food as you should, you're gonna be fucking fat. Period.
Solution: don't eat so much fucking food. Bonus: this means you'll have more money.

I dunno if either of us can extract any actual meaning from those fancyword combos you threw out there, but I'll say this: it seems that people try to use food as a substitute or placeholder for a different need which they don't understand and which society does not adequately address.
What people in this society don't have, and don't know they don't have, are real interpersonal connections.
Kinship. Community. A sense of belonging.
Even in families, it's lacking: he plays the father who earns money, she the mother who keeps house, they the children who are provided for.
Everyone's got a role that they think they understand, and because the roles are understandable people assume they are correct and sufficient. Meanwhile, nobody is having a shared experience, and even husband and wife are essentially isolated from each other.
We feel this emotional vacuum without knowing what it is, and turn to methods which fill different vacuums that we understand, such as that of hunger -- but food isn't love, so instead of satisfaction we get obesity.

Alright, my brash counterpart. What you fail to realize is that 'thinking' has nothing to do with your 'psyche' in that context. The psyche I speak of pertains to one's subconscious. What you're pretty much saying is that, for example, a heroin addict is a heroin addict due to flawed thinking, which is completely bogus; he doesn't think heroin will make him better, nor does he think heroin is healthy for his body. Said heroin addict also knows that he's a heroin addict, hence the reason why he's a heroin addict. Mentally, he knows of his flaws and the flaws of his actions, thoughts, and possibly perceptions. But subconsciously, he has a void that he must fill, so his problems lie within his psyche.

So, really, the underlying problem is their will. Fat people know dieting and exercising will help them but they can't cope with the existing void within themselves. So, due to their weak psyches, they emotionally indulge in their negativity (obesity) with the aid of more negativity (food) rather than try to physically alleviate their problems. And once they can change their psyche, they can change their thought process, consequently correcting any 'flawed thinking'. But the 'flawed thinking' is more incorporated with their subconscious rather than their thought process, so they unconsciously eat more; they don't eat premeditatedly, usually; it's mainly impulsive.

I considered appending an apology to my previous post then decided not to. Looks like that was the wrong call, so I'll say now what I thought then: I apologize for the harsh tone. I'm in a rather angry mood in general and I don't mean any of it to be directed at you personally.

Our terms are different but I think our essential argument is the same. Yours perhaps more clearly elucidated than mine.

I see that it was really just a misunderstanding of nomenclature and classification.

Yes. I realized that we had the same opinion.


But my perception of the 'psyche' and 'thought' are very much like Sigmund Freud's while you had a more literal context.

to play devils advocate: I eat more than twice as much food than i should, and i am lean and trim.

Quality of food and exercise are actually the determining factor in obesity. IMO.

No, you have a high metabolism and you eat an amount of food appropriate to your calorie usage. If you were eating more food than you should, you would be gaining weight.
Maybe you eat twice as much food as some of your peers, but the fact that you remain lean and healthy clearly indicates that your food consumption is appropriate.
