Blue rotting not bruising?

I managed to get my jars cultivated and I have had them in a hum. chamber for the last week or so. At first there were lots of little pinheads poppin up, air exchange/misting twice a day, but now the bottom of the cake is turning blue and the little ones at the bottom are rotting? should I cut the bottom of the cake off? I need to do something differently and I dont really know what im doing. Heres a pic and ANY advice would be Awsome!

Is it sitting in a lid full of liquid?

cakes will turn blue if they are stressed. or if they dry out or are too wet. you dont need to cut anything off. except maybe those rotting aborts.

I pulled the cake out of the jar turned it over and set it back on the lid. the lid is elivated 1 inch by some wire mesh which is sitting in water. Should I put wet perlite in the bottom of the chamber and put the cake on that instead?

dont have the cake in water or directly on the perlite. you can use the lids just dont put water in the lids. the only time anyone puts their cake in a tray of water is when they want to rehydrate it during a large pinset. and they only do it as long as overnight.

Your saying your fruiting chamber doesnt have any perlite, just water on the bottom?

YOu need perlite, 3-4 inches.

That pin doesnt look like its rotten, its just aborted

Does the perlite need to be steralized first?

Ok so im going to put 3 inchs of wet perlite in the bottom of the chamber and leave the cake in the lid? some of the pins are deffinitly rotten on the other side so im going to cut them off.

I dont see how pins would be wrotten so quickly unless something really wrong is going on. rotting is caused by bacteria.

In your terrarium you should have 4-5 inches of well rinsed and rained perlite. Dont sit them on the perlite, use your jar lids to keep the cakes off the perlite.

Standing water is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Fruiting chambers r never sterile.


Only time you need to keep everything sterile is inoculation through incubation.

Yes but you do have to keep it clean, and standing water in a terrarium will allow bacteria to grow which aint good.

Fruiting chambers arnt sterile, but that doesnt mean you dont need to keep them clean.

I have left over vermiculite would that work instead of perlite?
