Mushrooms found in backyard.
    #10759393 -

I live in metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia.

Yesterday, I found a cluster of mushrooms in my backyard. They were growing in grass under an apricot tree. I thought this a pretty strange place, but from my (admittedly ignorant) perspective, they look very similar to many of the images posted on here all the time.

The caps have dark yellow/brown nipples and the colour gets lighter as it reaches the edge of the cap. There are some (very few) white dots on the caps. Lines can be seen on the caps of wet (or old) mushrooms branching from the centre to the edge. The younger mushrooms have their caps curving into the stalk at the edges, while the older ones have flattened out.

Stalks are white and 'stringy'. The underside of the cap is dark brown/black.
I'm doing a spore print now, and I'll post it once it starts looking good.
Today, the mushrooms that I didn't pick are all black, with perhaps a hint of blue/purple (I could be being optimistic).

This is the only photo I took that came out with decent focus:

you have found some coprinus. they are not active, and are non toxic. i doubt they would tatse any good anyway. if your going to eat them make sure you dont drink any alcohol with them. unfortuneatly, the sub season is almost over now. you might still find a few, but you wont really get any big hauls now.

Thanks guys.

For the future, what are the key distinguishing factors between these and active species - besides the spore print?

Active species stain blue and have either a dark purple brown or black spore print.

They look a lot different.  Take a very close look at all the mushrooms you find and you'll see it.
