Opinion on relationship question.
    #10730561 -

So here is the situation.  About 6 months ago  I got with this girl.  She turns out to be absolutely amazing and I love her to death, (and she loves me back). she is the most laid back person I have ever met, and is awesome is so many ways it baffles me.  We both reside in hood river right now.  in September she will be moving to Eugene for school and I am moving to Portland.

Should I hold on to this?  Should we try to tough out the distance?  (2 hour drive).  I could really see myself with her for quite some time if we did work something out.

Any tips on how to keep a strong relationship with the distance barrier?

there is always a chance of transfer after the year, or me moving again, that is all unknown at this point.

Also, I would like to add, that I will not be making my decisions based solely on responses from the shroomery, I am intelligent enough, but It is good to hear other perspectives that wold possibly help me see something I have not.

I carried on a long-distance relationship in early college for a while.    We ended up breaking it off and I think in the end we were both glad we did.  It sucks to miss out on being "free" in college where there's so many fish in the sea

Yeah, I can def see that.  Sucks a ton that between the ages of 16-22 I have been in many relationships and learned a lot, but this seems like a deeper connection.  An understanding like no other.

Nothing wrong with giving it a try.....but I would not be super hopeful about it working.

The fish and the sea comment holds alot of water in this situation.........

If it's really that "real" than 2 hours is nothing.
How old is she?

You really have to make a judgment on her level of commitment and passion towards this and then ask yourself how happy she really makes you?

Is spending just the weekend with her enough joy to satisfy you, versus having someone else around all the time? Are you really guaranteed someone else around if you just drop this girl? Will someone new be as connected?

If you feel that strongly about her, and if she wants this, at least test how the distance feels for a month or however long it takes to realize whether you want to do this or not. Either one of you might be making a decision based on a realization first.

lol your worried about a 2 hour drive?  alot of people have a 2 hour drive just to get to fucking work lol.  shit alot of people have a 2 hour drive for school too.

and seeing as how your gf has legs, that means its only a 1 hour drive.  so pick an appartment smack in the middle of where you both go to school

Yes, I think the best thing to do is just test it out for a month.

The likely case of me finding someone quickly if we did not work would be very slim, I tend to have longer good relationships with long periods of dormancy in between.  Last breakup I went 6 months without even a hint of a relationship.

And Makav, 2 hours is def not terrible, that's why I am even considering.  I will not be going to school, I am moving to Portland with a great friend because he is getting a divorce and we both need out of this small town, so moving in between is not something I would really consider.  I told my girl if she wanted me to I would move to Eugene, and she said she would never ask that of anyone.

prolly because she shouldn't have to ask.  im telling you right now if you move with your friend instead of your gf your relationship will be trashed.

It's more because my ex before her.  I had moved to Eugene for 2 weeks for her, and our relationship went sour because we were both emotional wrecks and did not have our heads screwed on straight.

I am wondering if a little distance is ok?  I should not be terribly distracting from school. I dunno,  I guess I will just feel it out.  I have already committed to Portland with my friend.  Maybe he would like Eugene as well?
