My friends in the military, check out cooling on his PC
    #10708114 -

Sorry no pics

i brieflhy saw his PC , it was open and everywhere on his GPU, CPU and few other places he had these color coded metalic plates! Very futuristic looking ... i was wondering if anyone heard/ seen anything like that? Aparently they are much more effective than any other "modern" PC cooling devices :awesome:

Heh, well you could always just paint your heatsinks different colors.

Anyway, sounds like peltier coolers. It's either that or waterblocks, and you didn't mention any tubes connecting them. Thermoelectric cooling is inefficient and there's a risk of condensation, so unless you want a silent PC or you're overclocking there's not much to recommend it over a standard heatsink fan.

You can buy one on eBay and we'll get a referral bonus :awesome: or there are plenty on Google Shopping too. You can also find peltier waterblocks which give the best cooling.

But you'll need to do some research, read about how to insulate things to prevent condensation, find out what's adequate for your CPU and make sure your PSU can support it, find out who the good manufacturers are, etc. I haven't messed with peltier coolers in years or I'd offer more advice. Do note the power requirements though, coolers for modern CPUs can draw hundreds of watts. Personally I'd run that through an HPS lamp instead, you'll be happier with the results. I really think both peltier and water cooling are kind of overkill these days, with stock CPU speeds so high. A nice solid copper heatsink with a big, slow, quiet fan costs much less in the long term and it's not as risky or complicated to use. But maybe I'm just getting old. :oldman:

I saw a pretty awesum cooling system that just immersed the entire computer in mineral oil in a fishtank case.  it apparently wicks away heat very effectively.

I would hate to be the one doing maintenance on that...

I'd be worred about oil getting inside the hard drive and messing it up
the read write heads float on air in normal operation
I can't see how they could run with  oil in between the heads and disks

Hard drives are sealed.

One time I had one that stopped working.  I took it apart and oiled it, then put it back togeather and it worked for several more years.  I thought the lack of a clean room would kill it, but I guess not.

I doubt that you soaked the disks with oil
every hard drive I have ever seen was vented
a small vent with a filter or a labyrinth but large enough to let oil in through the vent hole

Same here.  Usually a sticker by the vent that says "Do not cover this hole or warrant is void".

i've seen the oil cooled pc, it only dunks the mobo and vid card.  u have to keep drives out of the oil for obvious reasons previously stated.  i am curious though if an ssd could survive under oil though.
