Psychedelic travel destinations?

So I've been daydreaming about traveling to another country that has a particularly thriving psychedelic scene. Places like Goa India, and Koh Samui Thailand. Who has experience with this type of travel and something to contribute to my thought process.

A lot of what I hear about is really Psytrance oriented. I do enjoy good psytrance from time to time, but I'm really more of a hippie at heart.

Anybody have any cool suggestions?

Somewhere tropical sounds appealing.

I have these same kind of thoughts all the time. Just being in that perfect place with the perfect people doing the perfect thing.

It's a part of india where apparently many hippies and bohemians took up residence back in the day.

Nowadays, it's more known for psytrance parties and the like, but I think theres still some of the old hippie vibe left too. They even have a style of electronic music named after them-Goa.

Goa is old, busted, and exploited. Take Raja Ram's advice and go somewhere else.

It'd be a trip just to travel anywhere exotic or foreign.

Why would you want to visit a contrived and artificial psychedelic scene when you have many natural exotic destinations you could travel to?

The first time I tried mushrooms was on Koh Phangan in Thailand.  It is one of the three islands in the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tau).

Koh Phangan is where the world famous Full Moon Party is held, we weren't there for that time but were there for the half moon party.

I had never tried psychedelics before, weed and the occasional ecstacy tablet were the extent of my drug taking.  My mate and I found out the night before of where to buy the "special drinks" that ssemed to be readily available in parts of Koh Phangan even though magic mushrooms are highly illegal in Thailand.  My guess is that the island police are either paid off by the retailers or just don't mind.  We did get searched and pulled over in the middle of the countryside by two travelling policemen earlier that day, searching through cigarette packets etc so they do still heavily monitor the tourist drug scene.

Anyway, we took the mushrooms with no idea on what to expect and had 3 times the average dose (got 3 glasses of it each, one after the other every 30mins).

What ensued was the most memorable and craziest experience of my life.  Neither of us knew what to expect AT ALL and were on a party island in the middle of Thailand, catching a ute taxi with 25+ drunken people on it to the middle of the jungle where there were the most amazing DJs and painted up people.  THe best part of the whole night was wandering the streets of Haad Rin Beach at 4am, just exploring the street signs and colours everywhere.  It was nothing short of magical.  Tripping at home in NZ in the middle of winter is like having a wank compared to having the best root of your life - it still feels good but does it compare on any kind of level?  Nope.

this island is supposedly barren from an ancient civilization bringing about its own demise, but this event looks like it would be something to experience (but that is what wiki etc says, this video seems to think differently).

I kinda get a feeling the scene probably isn't what it once was (they usually aren't by the time I know about them:shrug:)

The islands off southern california are pretty good for tripping ,mostly uninhabited and raw.....

  I get this wierd feeling like I am out here surrounded by water and all the rest of the humans are over there on the big chunk of land running around to thier random destinations...which is true ,but it really sinks in while you are tripping and then you journey to the other side of the island and it is just ocean and nothing for as far as you can see........pretty intense actually realizing you are 30 miles off shore and there is no land for thousands of miles in the other direction.

    It`s a good time and a great place to be free.

Yeah, the Channel Islands are very beautiful. I've only been on Catalina Island, which I guess technically isn't part of the Channel Islands. It was very beautiful out there. I've camped there a few times.

I live close to the San Juan islands right now. I hear there's a really cool hot springs on Orcas Island where you can rent yurts, or camp for a fee.

I've been to goa, it's time has passed. Still is worth a visit, but not what it used to be.
But.. India in general is an amazing country- full on psychedelic. I would trip on acid when I was there, and since this country is so crazy I could never know for sure what was part of my acid trip and what was part of this country. India itself is a psychedelic trip.
