Will cotton work instead of polyfill?
    #10684635 -

Can I use it to make filters in my WBS jars?

Yes, cotton fiber or gauze is all we used back in the day.  Keep it dry or it will mold.  Polyfill is synthetic and thus more forgiving if it gets wet.

Sounds like a good way to suffocate your substrate.  You're not supposed to filter air in a fruiting chamber.

Never use cotton it is very water absorbent and will wick contams into your jars polyfil is not absorbent that's why we use it.
Cotton has always been a nono since day one.

I thought they said all great minds think alike...

nastos  the way you are describing it would mean that your sandwitching the polyfill between the tape. which is overkill and would not allow enough ge. Now if you mean your just going to stuff the holes gently with polyfill then that should be good.

Well to tell you the truth we never used filters back in the day we just cracked the lids slightly and keep them in a semi-sterile environment. Had very few contams if any. Things have changed a lot since then.

That's seems like it would be blocking a significant portion of the airflow. The purpose of the polyfill or cotton is not to filter the air, rather it's there to hold in moisture while allowing air exchange. Plentiful FAE is what keeps molds at bay, not filtering the holes.

nothing wrong with a good ole' hole lightly stuffed with polyfill.  Helps keep the humidity in, while still allowing a bit of air.  I agree with the rabbit here only if you are the type who will mist daily at minimum.  Otherwise, loosely packed polyfill in some holes will give you enough cushion to be away from the grow for a week or two.

You ever seen that movie Constantine.  Well they pass into hell several times.  In hell there are melting human bodies, in your tub are melting mushroom bodies.  Your tub had passed into mushroom hell.

During GE you want high levels of CO2. During FAE you want high levels of O2. Let's use the proper terms!
