I just don't get why everyone likes Tool so much.
    #10673233 -

Ya, they have some good stuff and the drummer is very talented but it's not anything I like to listen to all the time and I certainly don't worship the band. Honestly I get tired of all the praise they get, I'd much rather listen to something like Porcupine Tree.

It's like anytime I find someone who's really into psychedelics they're usually major tool heads for some reason. Just a thought, I'm not hating on the band or anything I really just don't get why they are so hyped.

I love tool and all, but I agree many overworship them.  Especially the ganja lovers.  Maybe they've smoked themselves so retarded they pick up on the inuendos and double meanings a lot slower than the rest of us and it's thus more interesting?

I really dislike Tool.  I have no idea what the deal is, frankly I think their music sucks, and I like most stuff.

I listen to Primus, far out jazz, mainstream jazz, rap, hip/hop, Girl Talk, Pink Floyd, pretty much everything.  It's not that I don't "get" their music or something - it's just not good.

While I like Tool and all, and I've seen them live about 4 times...

They are probably one of the most overrated bands of our time.

I mean don't get me wrong, they are great and all.. but people say Maynard is god, blah blah blah, they are all so amazing.. just way over-hyped.

Yes exactly!

I mean, I like a lot of their stuff but I think this is the first instance where a bands fanbase has actually turned me off to a band more then anything. Not that there aren't a lot of other over hyped band out there.

Yeah, they're OK, but Tool is depressing to listen to when I'm sober, much less tripping.  They seem like really cool guys though.

tool is an easy band for people to get into from this generation who are just entering the psychedelic scene. they're definitely "out there," with songs like 3rd eye and rosetta stoned, but they also have hard rock singles like jaambi that many people can appreciate without drugs. my musical taste has expanded a lot since i first got into them, though, and i find myself seeking out new music rather than focusing on a single band all the time.

tool is kind of a comfort zone for me. they've got songs for any kind of mood, and when i'm tripping, i often notice myself shifting through a spectrum of emotions as i listen to their albums.

I think they are overrated as well.

I also think they more capture alcohol and opiate energy than psychedelic energy.

I've thought that for years, and what's funny is, there was a thread that was titled "fuck tripping, what's good drinking music?" or something like that, and whatdya know, Tool was the first one listed.

The drummer is talented for sure, and Aenima is damn good for what it is (lateralus too), but I don't really consider Tool to be very "psychedelic"

If you don't think a band deserves the appreciation it gets, it just means you don't like them as much as other people do.

maybe they're overrated in the USA psychedelic scene, I dont know. Maynard himself hates fans saying he's God and what not.

and I got into them way before I ever got into psychedelics to be honest. Used to hang up on an italian forum about Tool and there was not a single post about psychedelic drugs.
