Review of the last century's phenomenology

Note: dates and names are from memory, so some details may be inaccurate. This is a random sampling. There are so many to choose from.
I am often accused of being a skeptic just because I am a ---- (you fill in the the blank). But let's recap some of the nonsense of the last hundred years:
1910's Faerie (or fairy) photograph: Must be authentic because two young girls could not possibly do darkroom magic. Lady photographer confessed to a hoax on her deathbed.
1930's Loch Ness photo. Photographer confessed to a hoax on his deathbed.
1920-40 Edgar Cayce's predictions about upcoming events failed to materialize.
1940 Phildelphia Experiment: Carlos Allende aka Carl Allen, recanted his story. No other crew members, documents or evidence backed up his story. Popularized by Charles Berlitz, sensational pulp fiction writer.
1940's Roswell "Incident" - no public interest for some 40+ years until popularized in a paperback by Stanton Friedman. Was a downed high-altitude mogul balloon.
1950s Peter Hurkos "transmits" mental image to film in a sealed camera. Hoax.
1960s USAF's BlueBook project shelved due to lack of evidence.
1960s Northwest Bigfoot 8mm movie. Hoax.
1960s Uri Geller demonstrates telekinesis. Hoax / parlor trick easily replicated by stage magicians.
1970s Cattle Mutilations are the rage as evidence of alien terror. Prominent veterinarian states wounds are consistent with predators. Recently regurgitated as chupacabras. Vets still state animal wounds are consistent with predatory attack.
1970s Whole crop or Yogic Masters with mysterious powers - fraud.
1980s Harmonic Convergence - no harmony or converging was noted.
1980's Crop Circles were a confessed hoax. Film crew duplicates entire process. 3 out of 3 "cereologists" claim the crop to be genuine after examining bent-not-broken stalks and testing with magnetometers. After seeing film, 2 out of 3 hold fast as do worldwidie believers.
1980's Face on Mars evidence of alien civilzation. Recent NASA fly-by shows eroded hill with no distinctive features.
1980s Gulf Breeze - finally "convincing" saucer photos - hoax.
1980s Mothership accompanying comet Kohoutek - nothing.
1990s Mothership accompanying comet Hale-Bopp - nothing.
1990s Entering Photon Belt - no astronomical data to back this up.
1990s 10,000 witness mothership flyby in Phoenix. Turns out to be military flares.
2000 No end of world as Nostradamus followers predict.
2012 End of world/history - civilization continues as before although some catastrophe will be pointed to as a "sign".
Naysayers are correct. We should NOT learn from the past and SHOULD swallow each new wild-eyed mysterious claim whole without question. The NEED TO BELIEVE is stronger than the need to expose the Wizard of Oz as the fraud behind the black curtain.
Many want magic more than truth. Not I, my friends. Not I.
Listen folks, is it being open-minded when your pet phenomenom is exposed, yet you still cling like a 15 year-old waiting for Santa Claus on Christmas?

15 year-old? Swami, at the age of 5 my son determined there wasn't a Santa Claus by matching "Santa's" writing to that of his relatives.
Some people can read the writing on the wall...
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

You believed in Santa when you were 15? Is that why you're so bitter towards "believers"?

1947 - alien autopsy film
Here's one you didn't mention but is related to the whole Roswell thing. I have watched this video and I'm still somewhat skeptical of this, but here is an article with some pretty convincing arguments for its authenticity.

Yes, that newspaper article came out shortly after the "event", but there was no public outcry of coverup until many decades later.

You believed in Santa when you were 15? Not hardly. Most kids figure it out early on as evolving pointed out, then give up the myth. Some here cling to equally obvious myths long after they should be let go of. Is analogy a difficult concept for you?
Is that why you're so bitter towards "believers"? I think the Swami detractors are soothed by my words as I have answered this endless times. Perhaps a Swami F.A.Q. would be in order...
I am not bitter, but protective of believers. I am however, alarmed at the damage that non-critical thinking can cause or at least, allow. Be it reading of a acquaintance's death in the Heaven's Gate Cult, to the ENRON scandal, to the War on Drugs, to the Jim Jones Cult tragedy, to television brain-washing to the Viet Nam War to the upcoming war in which there will most certainly be no victor.

Yes I saw the footage of the Pheonix incident and they definately did not look like flares.
And how many times have you seen flares on videotape?
A daytime photo of the surrounding mountains matching in scale was superimposed on the clearest and most popular videos. You can see the lights disappearing as they dropped behing the mountains proving that the lights were over 10 miles away and not directly over downtown Phoenix as claimed. Not suprisingly a military base is located behind the mountain.
The lights also descended at the exact same rate expected of a flare and had the same luminosity.
Remember if it looks like a flare and floats like a flare and shines like a flare, it must be a mothership.

CNN used to have a link to a video showing proof that it was flares, but since the article is so old, the video doesn't seem to exist anymore. Anyways, here is the webpage that still has the original footage...

They were dropped from a plane that was flying through the sky. That's exactly the pattern I would expect (straight horizontal line).

Why did the government not explain what it was afterwards? The govoner or sombody made a speach demanding what happened. I don't think there was a answer. Why would the government not say anything if it was just flares?
