Photoshop buffs...

How would you create a quality looking starry sky? I'd like to create something professional looking that's dense with stars for my website. With a bit of messing around, I made this:

Lighter Version  Darker Version

It's missing what I would call crispness, sharpness, richness... and a bunch of other useless words that probably don't transfer meaning very well. I'd also like to mix in a dense streak of stars that resembles the milky way when you're looking up at it, or through it.
I kind of like the cartoonish sense of the picture, although I'd prefer a realism-enhanced look to an all-out cartoon look.

I have no clue about photoshop, but making the start bright sharp points in stead of blurry dots will help.

I've been looking at many tutorials, but none have given quality results. Most just use the noise feature in Photoshop, which is anything but quality looking. Did you see a tutorial for that specific picture you posted?

edited your image slightly with an unsharp mask, and an overlaid hypass layer, along with a little cloning to remove orangeness and increase stars slightly.

That improved the clouds and I like the area of stars that used to be orange. The other stars may be a little too brittle though, but overall, I like it.

You could always try adding some Lens Flares.

old thread sry, but if you use noise, follow it by going to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST and lower the brightness, turn up contrast, then if you do that for a couple of layers and change the opacity and set to screen mode it will make a multilayered fading effect.

Can the critics still deny that the geometry of matter is directly related to the harmonic interweaving of light itself? There is no substance, in the absolute sense. We live in a reality of un-reality; all is an illusion and the stuff that dreams are made of. Our physical world is nothing more than a resonating ball of light and shade."
