The modern political landscape is nothing like 1984.  Its a trite comparison that doesnt hold up to any real scrutiny.

the problem is that one can read any political utopia/dystopia and find a million correlations to life; its the nature of the hermeneutic  process.

Thats just plain jackassery.  Nobody can take credit for their own songs? I think this dummy is talking about DJs, not musicians.  Today there are wayyyy more musicians writing their own original music than there ever have been in history. Most of them are not famous or even musicians by profession but they're just as passionate.  That statement about most songs being remixes or collages is a great example of a sweeping generalization that has no basis in truth.  As soon as I read that, the article lost all credibility and whoever wrote it became a retard in my eyes despite the interest in parallels between 1984 and today's reality that I've had ever since I first read the book.

Yeah its scary. RFID's and bio IDs here. Most security experts say that neither is very secure, making it possible to be framed for a crime or have somebody steal you ID to commit crimes.

In Canada the police are lobbying to gov't to be able to monitor the internet and have easy access to stuff you do online. Illegal, but government-sanctioned wiretapping and the Patriot Act in the states pretty much is 1984.

The US is unquestionably a police state but they still call it "the land of the free." what a joke. When are you guys going to riot and fuck-up those responsible for selling-out a once-great nation???
