Wacky Contaminant in my bag of peat
    #1044572 - 11/11/02 09:40 PM (14 years, 25 days ago)

Well, I was running a little low on 50/50 casing mixture, so I decided I'd whip some up for tomorrow morning.

I was setting up my quart jars (I PC the mixture in quart jars and use them for storage of the casing material also) to fill, and I opened up my bag of peat - opened only once before, Schultz brand from Walmart, and the fuckin thing was completely covered in light lime green colored balls of some type of mold!!

Each ball was perhaps ~1mm in size, and they seemed to be in clusters, but the clusters overlapped. Needless to say I didnt really peek or poke around, just cloesd the fucker up. I could still see 'uncolonized' peat, but for the most part it was completely covered, with the growths coming almost up to the zipper seal on the side of the plastic.

Does anyone have any idea what the fuck this is? I am kind of wondering if I should go back to walmart and bitch, because it's not like this shouldve happened, plus I'm poor as shit.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I guess this post doesnt have much of a point.

Go back to walmart and return that shit, then go to lowes or home depot and get one of those huge bags of peat moss. The small bags that you get from walmart are a rip. I know that peat is not verm, but just to give you an example, I got an 18 pound bag of verm (it was huge, filled up a garbage can) for something like $12. Buy in bulk, its what all the cool people do, hehe.

Ahaha I would, but I live in a tiny ass apartment, and my roomate is a bigtime square. I know exactly the size's your talking about, my parents run a gardening business and go through a bunch of those giant cubes of peat every year. I know buying in bulk is the way to go, but for my needs ( i gotta get that shit home on a bicycle!!!!) the small bags are pretty decent.

Fuckin scary mold though!! Crazy color to it... Ah well, I love going to walmart, always so much fun stuff to gank, tomorrow I'm getting myself some pencil crayons, I want to trip out and draw this weekend.

Peeace, thanks again happygrins and Skikid, you're the king.
