Green Myco Bag

Hi there. After my first successful flush of Mazatapecs from sporeworks grown in a myco bag, I started 5 more bags of the Ecuadoreans. I put 2 cc in each bag from the syringe on the 28th and checked them today. All 5 bags have nice white "mold" growing, but one of them also has a good mound of green growing in it too. Is it game over for this bag? How might this have happened when the other 4 are doing so well? Is there anything I can do? Tappuck

The green bag is toast. Since only 1 of 5 is green, the syringe is not likely the cause. Either the bag wasn't sterilized properly initially or your injection compromised the bag. Either the hole wasn't taped perfectly or the bag's injection site surface wasn't cleaned well enough before puncturing. You might inquire if there have been any other reports of bad bags at the time of your purchase. And you might check for folds or creases leading to the injection point under the tape. Since the green didn't show up immediately, it probably wasn't the bag. It was probably a single mold spore that snuck in during the injection process or soon after since it took time to propogate and become noticable. Green molds grow faster than mycelium and a contaminated bag would have been noticed well before the mycelium had a chance to appear. A moment of silence for the fallen bag.

Who knows... Anyway, I think the injection hole is taped securely. I use big white sterile patches that cover up the hole and a whole lot more. Very strange... Although 4 bags are from one mailed group and 1 bag is from my previous order and is older than the others. Perhaps that is suspect, but I grew a great big ole bag of Mazatapecs in one of the bags from the last batch... Tappuck

Just an update. The green area is not growing any larger while the white does continue to grow. By the way, the last bag of Mazatapecs that I grew had a second flush and I'm not even taking care of the bag real well. It's kinda sitting half on heat and half off since I'm outta room while I do the 5 bags of Ecuadorians. There are two really big guys growing right now. Tappuck

Ok, thats cool. Don't mix the green bag and keep it at the temperature it is now. Higher heat will favor the mold and mixing will of course spread it all over. With luck the mold will be overgrown and it will fruit normally. It will be up to you to decide if you want to eat shrooms from that bag.
